SKU: BA.BA04050 Opera in three acts. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Dorothea Schröder. This edition: complete edition, urtext edition. Linen. Halle Handel Edition (HHA) Series II, Volume 1. Oper, Barock (Opera, Baroque). Complete edition, Score. HWV 1. Duration 3 hours, 30 minutes. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA04050_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA04050). ISBN 9790006443598. 33 x 26 cm inches. Language: German. Text: Feustking, Friedrich Christian. “Almiraâ€, Handel’s first opera, was well received when premiered in 1705 at the Theater am Gänsemarkt in Hamburg. The director was Reinhard Keiser, who, remarkably, had himself already set Friedrich Christian Feustking’s text to music. The role of Fernando was sung by Johann Mattheson. The translation used by Handel leaves several Italian arias in their original language, resulting in a delightful mixture of German and Italian.
The opera which, after sundry entangled romances, ends in the wedding of three couples, is characterised by exuberant scenes: the procession at Almira’s crowning ceremony, a duel, a prison scene and a masked-ball involving the three continents Europe, Africa and Asia.
The vocal score to “Almira†by George Frideric Handel brings about a small sensation: Whilst conducting a reenactment of this work in 1732, Georg Philipp Telemann removed the Aria no. 28 “Ingrato, spietato†from his conducting score. Since then this aria has been deemed lost. Due to necessity only the edited vocal text devoid of any music was presented in the 1994 volume of the “Halle Handel Editionâ€. Thanks to a recently discovered contemporary manuscript copy from the beginning of the 18th century which was found in the music library of the Mariengymnasium in Jever, this aria has now been made available to performers for the first time in this new vocal score edition. Previous to this the corresponding pages could only be seen as a facsimile in an article of the “Göttinger Händel-Beiträgeâ€. Now the aria can be performed again. Furthermore, with the help of this new source, missing measures in the basso continuo which had initially been completed by the editor of the “Halle Handel Edition†volume, could be reconstructed from the basso continuo part of the Bellante aria “Ich brenne zwar†(no. 71).

SATB choir SKU: ST.CN16P Composed by Richard Bullen. ChoralNow. This PRINTED version is available to purchase as a regular sheet music title for delivery by post. Octavo. Stainer & Bell Ltd. #CN16P. Published by Stainer & Bell Ltd. (ST.CN16P). ISBN 9790220224737. As well as traditional genres, Richard Bullen's music embraces several contemporary ones including video and electronics, and shows a keen interest in location both in its formal possibilities and in its genius loci - its spirit of place. A five-minute stand-alone piece for SATB chorus, The Seven Arches was written for a site-specific project at the Dartington International Summer School: an invocation of the rich cultural and mythic past of the celebrated gardens. In poet Steve Willey's multi-layered text the remaining seven arches of the medieval courtyard become metaphors for this continuing presence. Bold arched melodies springing from resilient, purposeful chords likewise animate the music, a sonic tableau of the sites / sights and sounds of history. Click video tab for the premiere performance conducted by David Lardi with the Finchley Chamber Choir, and view the full text as presented in Willey's intriguing original visual conception of his poem about Dartington Hall. $5.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Beethoven described his Missa solemnis as his greatest work several times, a work which, coming from the heart, was to touch and move audiences. The surviving sources enable us to recognize how intensively and how long he worked on the composition in order to give what he felt was adequate expression to the text. In its length and musical demands, the Missa solemnis goes far beyond typical liturgical settings, and the premiere took place, for good reason, in a concert hall. The chorus plays a key structural role in the work, and in the process has to master some extremely demanding sections. The leading Beethoven expert Ernst Herttrich has produced an Urtext edition based on the available sources, and reflecting the latest state of scholarship. SATB choir and chamber orchestra or piano SKU: MN.CH-1343 Composed by Dale Jergenson. 21st Century. Laurendale Associates #CH-1343. Published by Laurendale Associates (MN.CH-1343). UPC: 765844006727. English. Isaac Watts (1674 –1748) was born in Southampton, England and was brought up in the home of a committed religious Nonconformist; his father, also Isaac Watts had been incarcerated twice for his views. Watts could not attend Oxford or Cambridge because of being a Noncomformist and because these universities were restricted to Anglicans, instead attending the Dissenting Academy at Stoke Newington in 1690. Watts lived at Abney Hall in Stoke Newington until his death in 1748; he was buried in Bunhill Fields. He left an extensive legacy of hymns, treatises, educational works, and essays. His work was influential amongst Nonconformist independents and religious revivalists of the 18th century by contributing to English hymnody with new poetry to be used in worship. The older tradition was based on the poetry of the Bible which was developed from the teachings of the 16th-century Reformation leader John Calvin. Watts’ introduction of extra-Biblical poetry opened up a new era of Protestant hymnody with other poets following in his path. Many of Watts’ hymns are included in the Christadelphian Hymnal, the Episcopal Church’s Hymnal 1982, Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the Baptist Hymnal, the Presbyterian Trinity Hymnal, and the Methodist Hymns and Psalms. Many of his texts are also used in the American Hymnal and The Sacred Harp. Several of his hymns are used in the hymnals of the Church of Christ, Scientist and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of the more that 600 tunes in the Sacred Harp, 149 of them have words by Isaac Watts. Similarly, of the 180 tunes in the Missouri Harmony 2005 Edition, Isaac Watts is credited with the words for 75 of them. The majority of these words come from Watts monumental Psalms and Hymns, first published in 1707. $1.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

The Dettinger Te Deum was written to celebrate England's victory over the French at the Battle of Dettingen. It is Handel's last and most successful setting of the Te Deum and reveals a deep understanding of the English church music tradition. The sound impact of this broadly conceived work is governed by the choirs in an almost theatrical exegesis of the text. Particularly striking are several borrowings from the Messiah which Handel had just completed. This edition, edited by Baroque specialist Amanda Babington, is based on the Urtext from the Halle Handel Edition.

SATB choir divisi, SATB soli, piano - Advanced SKU: MN.CH-1285 Composed b...(+)
SATB choir divisi, SATB soli, piano - Advanced SKU: MN.CH-1285 Composed by Gregg Smith. Multi-Movement/Large Choral Work. 21st Century. Laurendale Associates #CH-1285. Published by Laurendale Associates (MN.CH-1285). Multiple Choirs. The Mass in Space was begun in the early 1980s and premiered March 12,1983 at Saint Peter's Church in NYC. After many years of following Charles Ives' dictum concerning spatial music (Place sound forces in space according to the structure of the music) in the Gregg Smith Singers' programming, Gregg decided to write a larger work completely devoted to spatial techniques. Writing music for space has one major problem: rhythmic togetherness. A couple of modern techniques and aleatoric devices and free rhythms are ideal for solving some of the problems, especially for performers at some distance from the conductor. Throughout the Mass, the chorus on stage and the piano are the set unit, while the performers in back/balcony have greater rhythmic freedom. All six movementsKyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus-Hosanna, Benetictus-Hosanna and Agnus Dei pursue a different spatial aspect. The Gregg Smith Singers have performed excerpts from Mass in Space all across the US on several national tours, and in Russia in 1995 for the St. Petersburg International Spring Festival of Contemporary Music. In a subsequent tour of Northern France, GSS was challenged and thrilled to sing it in the Riems Cathedral and in the huge Amiens Cathedral. Wherever it has been performed, audience reaction has been overwhelmingly good. $14.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
