Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the songwriting team behind The Greatest Showman, Dear Evan Hansen, and La La Land, wrote this tender ballad for the much-anticipated musical crossover episode between the CW's Supergirl and The Flash. The touching lyrics will leave a mark on the hearts of both singers and audiences.

In 2014, Chanticleer commissioned me to make a new arrangement of the Hungarian-Romani folk song Jarba, Mare Jarba for their 2014 touring program. Passed down orally through the Romani communities, this beautiful folk song, with text in a language called Beas (beh-osh), speaks of a deep longing to visit one's homeland, a place where the singer can never return. Chanticleer consists of twelve men whose vocal ranges span from low bass to high soprano, equivalent to the range of a mixed choir of women and men. I composed slow sections of original material to represent the singers' longing to return home; these are interspersed with the folk song's traditional fast sections. The incorporated shouts and calls in the score are typically found in the performance of Central European folk songs. I hope you enjoy singing this new version of Jarba, Mare Jarba that contains all of the vigor and excitement of the Chanticleer version. PERFORMANCE NOTES All spoken sounds (indicated by x noteheads) should be performed by individuals. Feel free to elaborate with more sounds of your own in the tradition of Eastern European folk music. If the piece is memorized, feel free to experiment with clapping on the off-beats of m. 93 to the end. Holding On to Christmas is something we love to do wrapping our arms around cherished memories; re-living the moments of Christmas that come to life in our hearts and minds year after year; being reminded of how much we are loved and how much we love in return; holding close those who make our lives special; expressing our love and thankfulness through cards and gifts, hugs and kisses, joy and laughter; sharing our love for one another around a cup of hot chocolate with Mom's homemade Christmas cookies; and hearing Dad, once again, read the Christmas story from the family Bible.Shared memories and more are at the center of the new Christmas musical, Holding On to Christmas, from beloved arranger Marty Parks. This delightfully charming, comfort-the-soul musical is a warm invitation to come sit by the fireside, wrap up in your favorite Christmas blanket, and reminisce about Christmas as, together, we celebrate family and friends, and most importantly, the Savior who was born so long ago on that first Christmas night in Bethlehem.Holding On to Christmas is a very special slice of Christmas-goodness that you will be excited to present to your congregation and community...a wonderful celebration of all we hold dear at this most special time of year!Song Titles: Christmastime * Holding On to Christmas * Sing a Song of Christmas (Carol Medley) includes Sing a Song of Christmas; Angels, from the Realms of Glory; Angels We Have Heard on High; and O Come, All Ye Faithful * In the Bleak Midwinter * The Birthday of a King * The Shepherds (Glory to God) * Behold that Star * Only God * Finale (Christmastime and Holding On to Christmas).

The “Missa brevis in E flat minor†for mixed choir a cappella has been composed in the tradition of the short Mass (without Credo) and can be easily managed by most choirs. Thanks to its conciseness, it is suitable for use in church services, while its delightful harmonic layout and consciously simple melodies (with clear allusions to folk music) also make it perfect for concert performance.“My music is my own and I have never tried to be original. That has always been my motto and I have only tried to use music to express all the feelings which life has to offer. This has led people to describe my music as ‘so sad that it sounds like birds who have lost their wings’ but also as ‘the happiest classical music that we have ever heard‘.My compositions are almost all sacred. They express not only my own faith but also my appreciation and respect for the timeless texts that have been used for centuries and centuries.“MÃ¥rten Jansson (b. 1965), elected member of the Föreningen svenska tonsättare (the Society of Swedish Composers), graduated from the Royal College of Music, Stockholm (KHM) with an MFA degree in Music Education, Dalcroze Eurhythmics and Voice. For more than ten years he was the music director and conductor of “Carmenâ€, one of the most prominent womens’ vocal ensembles in Sweden. He currently teaches choral conducting and music theory as well as giving vocal tuition at the Bolandgymnasiet and Musikskolan in his home town of Uppsala. Please find a recording of the “Missa brevis†performed by the Ensemble Sonoro, Neil Ferris (Conductor) by clicking on Multimedia.

Fostering an atmosphere that lives up to its title, this adaptation of Psalm 131 will touch the hearts of your congregation. A good opportunity for an alto soloist. Painting a picture of the omnipresence of God the Creator, this lovely tune with active keyboard accompaniment invites contemplation by the believer and the one who longs to believe. The gentle syncopations in the melody will highlight the talents of a singer who is more at home in a “contemporary†style. The piece was commissioned by Kevin Scully, Director of Creative Arts, for the Port Washington School District, New York, with special thanks to the Ed Foundation and HEARTS for their unwavering support. Performance Notes This lighthearted piece is a great way to bring multiple choirs together in harmony. It may be sung by a single SATB choir, though it is intended to be performed by multiple choirs of varying age levels. Song of the Sound was written for an all-district feeder festival piece for combined elementary, middle level, and high school choirs. Here is a suggested outline for combining multiple choirs: Rehearsal Letters A to B: Elementary choir only (two-part, Soprano, Alto) Rehearsal Letter B: add Middle Level Soprano, Alto with Elementary choir Rehearsal Letter C: Middle Level choir only Rehearsal Letter D: High School choir only Rehearsal Letter E to the end: Everyone! Song of the Sound: Running on the beach, digging in the sand, Seaweed in my toes, bucket in my hand. When I'm at the shore, way above the rest, These are all the things that I love the best. Skipping like a stone on the water, diving deep in the silvery foam, Swimming far where the land cannot hold us, where the lighthouse calls us home. Flying free above the marshes, soaring high above the sea, Where the tern and cormorant and plover call to lands we cannot see.Come let us go to the water, let us go to the singing shore: Where the gentle breezes whisper and the mighty breakers roar. We will look to the shining ocean, to the East, where the new day dawned: We will sing a song of the edge of the world and the waiting sky beyond. -Poem by Robert Bode (Hope Springs Retreat Center, Ohio.
