The renowned conductor Frieder Bernius regards the motets of Hans Fahrmann (1860-1940) as an indispensable and extremely welcome addition to the late Romantic repertoire. Fahrmann was born in Saxony. Although his choral works are generally little known nowadays, during his lifetime he was considered the Richard Strauss of the organ. With their challenging harmonies which stretch tonality to its extremes, they represent an exciting addition to the chamber choir repertoire. And not least, their sonorous expressivity is thanks to their chromatic richness. Frieder Bernius has recorded the Motets opp. 34, 45, and 65 for the first time on CD with the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart (Carus 83.499).

In the days of Roslawez, the use of lyrical texts in Russian choral music was an exception. Traditionally, sacred liturgical texts were preferred in choral singing. Roslawez composed only a few choral works anyway, so this excellent cantabile piece is a real treasure. The poem 'Na poljach' (In the Fields) was written by the Russian poet Pyotr Oreshin. Little solo parts answered by the tutti, charming harmonies and a floating rhythm result in an Impressionist tonal image. The piece is quite easy to sing and will bring pleasure to both performers and listeners.Roslawez studied composition and violin in Moscow. He was among the leading figures of the musical scene in the 1920s. Treated more and more with hostility for political reasons and eventually barred from pursuing his career, he spent the last years of his life in poverty.

This first edition of a mass by Biber offers a new glimpse of the colourful and contrastful world of the Baroque. Since the publication of his Missa Salisburgensis in 1903, no mass with this kind of many-voice scoring has appeared in print. This edition not only enriches the multi-choir repertoire, but also is an important contribution to study of an Austrian composer, who has long been known chiefly for his violin compositions. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4067900.

About 40 compositions, including half for accompanying and unaccompanied choir, are currently in the catalog of young Polish composer Katarzyna Danel (born 1992). After several national composition competitions, she won the 13th International Composition Competition Musica Sacra Nova with her Misericordias Domini for eight-part mixed choir a cappella. The complex spiritual a cappella choir is based on the Gregorian chant of the same name (Psalm 89,2). Three principal structures are characteristic of this Latin-language choral piece: on the one hand, aleatoric sound clouds in major pentatonic scales, soundally supported by long-held organum-like notes taken from the Gregorian choral melody; As well as a renaissance-like polyphony, which is linked with modern harmony; And finally long static chords that blend into harmony and space. A wonderfully mystical-spherical composition, which also gives the individual performer the possibility of individual design through the ad libitum passages marked in the sheet music.

This gradual for the Feast of Holy Church Fathers was composed in 1879. The Lydian setting is, as Bruckner himself said, without sharps, without flats, without triads on the 7th step, without six-four chords, without the sounds of fourths or fifths..
