“Melodic charm, bel canto sensibility, impressionist harmony à la Française and jazz rhythm influences unite in this quartet for three B-flat Clarinets and Bass Clarinet. Yellow Green was premiered on July 23rd, 2013 at the Teatro Municipal de Niterói (Rio de Janeiro) by the musicians of the Omega Quartet: Maurício Silva, Deusiel da Cunha de Souza, Diego Abreu and Mateus Falkemback (bass clarinet). Approximately 9 minutes in length, the title ' Yellow Green ' is a tribute to the two colours of the Brazilian flag. The introduction gives way to a vast Fugue (marked Vivace) dipped in the colours of swing. The central Adagio floats a dreamy, timeless melody. The brief finale brings together the fugue's thematic material with one last recommendation for the performers: 'Feel jazz'. This invigorating work was recorded for the Chant de Linos label by its dedicatees, the Omega Quartet clarinetists.&rdquo.

His compositions show the influence of those experiences and more. A Week in Plasencia was written following Mike’s 2015 trip to the International Clarinet Association festival in Madrid. After a week in the City that Never Sleeps, Mike sought an unknown, tranquil, provincial alternative. Sunny Plasencia, a riverside town at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos, came to reveal itself as a magical font of beauty, history, and inspiration. Patrick Hiketick is a Belgian pianist and composer. As a composer he worked for nearly all theatre companies in Flanders and he wrote over a 100 different theatre plays, amongst which the complete oeuvre of Molière and Shakespeare. He was also the musical director for all Brecht plays for KNS theatre in Antwerp, where he worked as the home composer for 10 years. He than became the musical coordinator for the Royal Ballet of Flanders and he wrote several ballet compositions for symphony orchestra. He has his own close-harmony and jazz trio, and he works freelance as a composer and as artistic director in several musical productions. He composed many clarinet works for the Flanders Clarinet Quartet, and was honoured in Japan with concerts completely dedicated to his works.

Conquering technical difficulties is something I find particularly rewarding when playing acoustic instruments: fully aware that today's electronics can triumph over a composer's most demanding technical challenges, I love the idea of performers encountering their instruments with virtuosity ... doing something that seems to defy physical boundaries.&rdquo.

The solo work is a capricious 'Arabesque' by Richard Orton, who also contributes a quartet for clarinets that plays on diaphragm articulation. David Ellis's 'Berceuse' is an extended lullaby, but not without its troubled dreams.
