Work for Clarinet solo. The composer writes 'The title refers to several levels in the piece. Partly a method I have used, where three lines are weaved, so they become one line, here the clarinet which can (nearly) only play one tone at the time. Either the three parts disappear and become one waving melodic line as in the beginning of the piece. Or they are put in different registers of the clarinet, so they are heard as separate lines weaving into one another. On a different level there is three different sequences, which are also weaved into one another; one which rises (for instance in the beginning), and one which falls, and one which falls in parallels in several registers. These three sequences become faster and faster every time they reappear. The idea of weaving melodic lines was inspired by Bach's pieces for solo strings, where he in a marvellous way established several simultaneous melodic lines, without simultaneous sounding notes. This happened by weaving parts, which in other works would sound simultaneously, into one another, so that only one note was heard at the time. This meant that in that long line, which was heard as the instrument's development of the piece, other melodies were weaving around each other with different focuses. Woven Lines was commissioned by DUT with support from the Danish Arts' Council.'.

Composed by Ferdinand Capelle, this Twenty Great Studies for Clarinet were written after Sivori, A, Charpentier, Rode, Fiorillo and M. Vieux. Quite difficult, they would help advanced players to master their technique and abilities and to build on the knowledge they already acquired. Each study lasts between one and two pages and they all have the approximate same level of difficulty. The book features an index table with a reference to Sivori, A, Charpentier, Rode, Fiorillo and M. Vieux to use as a guide.

A must-have for Clarinet. This Sonata in 4 movements comes from a group of 3 Sonatas for wind instruments (oboe, clarinet and bassoon) composed in May and june 1921. They are the last in the catalogue of Saint-Saens' works. In this third movement, you should contrast the registers as if they are separate instruments responding to each other. Your bass quasi funebre should be ample and sonorous, though without acidity, whilst for your treble you should look for a very gentle flute sound, distant and without vibrato. This series proposes the very best of classical pieces for clarinet, revised by great teachers and concertists, at reduced price.

Dedicated to Anthony McGill, Principal Clarinet, New York PhilharmonicClarinet Duration: 5'30 Composed: 2020 Published by: Subito Music Publishing PROGRAM NOTE: The year 2020 has definitely been a very challenging year with many upheavals. During this time of the COVID-19 health crisis, wearing masks, and high racial tensions, I decided to compose four short solo woodwind works for flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon, which represent the core woodwind section in an orchestra. I was inspired to compose these short pieces after I first heard Igor Stravinsky's three short pieces for clarinet, which totals a little more than four minutes in duration. I thought that it would be nice to highlight and honor my African-American male colleagues in the orchestral music world. I wanted to celebrate the fact that they are the principal player in the section of their respective orchestras. The short pieces are as follows: Principal Brother No. 1 for flute solo for Demarre McGill, Principal Flute of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Principal Brother No. 2 for oboe solo for Titus Underwood, Principal Oboe of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Principal Brother No. 3 for clarinet solo for Anthony McGill, Principal Clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, and Principal Brother No. 4 for bassoon solo for Bryan Young, Principal Bassoon of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra. These works all begin with notes that are representative of their name; D for Demarre, B for Titus (ti in solfège starting on C), A for Anthony, and Bb for Bryan. There is also a rhythmic figure in the opening measures of each piece, which represent the utterance of their names. All four of these works are rhapsodic in nature with elements of improvisation. - James Lee III.

Ilkka Kuusisto's raucous and technically somewhat challenging suite for clarinet and piano Kissalan Aapelin soitteita (Aapeli of Kissala plays the Clarinet) is a musical portrait gallery of the Seven Brothers by playwright Aleksis Kivi. They all get musical pictures played by Aapeli, a character also appearing in the play. Musical motives are derived from the characteristics of the main persons, ie. the movement Tuomas is in slow tempo, as if portraying the trustworthiness of stable Tuomas. Aapo's Menuetto may refer to the characters abilities to tell stories. Simeoni wrestles with the Devil, as he does in the book with both alcohol and in his religious beliefs. Eero, the youngest of the brothers is portrayed in a fast polka. The suite was commissioned by Tapio Lotjonen for specifically for piccolo clarinet. In this volume the solo part is published both in B-flat and E-flat transpositions, as prepared by the composer. Contents: 1. Jussin polska * Jussi's polska 2. Tuomas 3. Menuetti Aapolle * A Menuetto for Aapo 4. Simeoni ja Perkele * Simeoni and the Devil 5. Timon Masurkka * Timo's mazurka 6. Laurin marssi * Lauri's march 7. Eeron polkka * Eeros's polka.

A must-have for Clarinet. This Sonata in 4 movements comes from a group of 3 Sonatas for wind instruments (oboe, clarinet and bassoon) composed in May and june 1921. They are the last in the catalogue of Saint-Saens' works. There is a mysterious anguish which floats throughout this brillant fourth movement. The agitation and feverishness of your playing should reflect this latent anguish. At the conclusion, which refers to the first movement, avoid accenting the quaver in the Barcarolle rhythm which risks making the phrasing too heavy. This series proposes the very best of classical pieces for clarinet, revised by great teachers and concertists, at reduced price.

A must-have for Clarinet. This Sonata in 4 movements comes from a group of 3 Sonatas for wind instruments (oboe, clarinet and bassoon) composed in May and june 1921. They are the last in the catalogue of Saint-Saens' works. In this second movement of the sonata, the articulations should be carefully pronounced to remain clear and intelligible in spite of the tempo. Use a light homogeneous staccato across the whole range and don't force the sound when the dynamics are loud; you will achieve like that an ample sound which is well balanced with the piano. This series proposes the very best of classical pieces for clarinet, revised by great teachers and concertists, at reduced price.

With Reading Key Jazz Rhythms: Clarinet Book & CD set by Fred Lipsius, you will learn essential jazz rhythms first hand from world-class professionals! Reading Key Jazz Rhythms is a collection of 24 easy to medium level jazz etudes, and 24 simplified guide-tone versions of the etudes. They are ideal for learning the basic language of jazz, swing phrasing, and articulation. A perfect tool for preparing for the jazz ensemble or for any other ensemble/orchestra which performs jazz related music (pops orchestras, musical, studio, movie scores, concert and marching bands, etc.). Each etude is based on a specific rhythm or a combination of rhythmic figures. Some etudes sound like very lyrical improvised jazz solos, while others are more like a melody to a standard. On the accompanying CD the soloist demonstrates the 24 melodious etudes together with a professional rhythm section. You can also improvise along with the play-along tracks using the chord symbols. The guide tones are the essential or defining notes for each given chord type. So if improvising is new to you and you find yourself getting lost, you can always return to a guide tone and play rhythmically around it. Any etude and its corresponding simplified guide tone version can be played together as a duet (with or without the CD accompaniment) with your teacher or a friend.

Kirmo Lintinen composed his clarinet concerto (2012-13) full of rhythmic drive attempting to write for the orchestra as if it were a large chamber ensemble in which listening closely to the other players is both possible and of supreme importance. All four movements of the clarinet concerto are joined together, and their titles say something: prefazione, danze, confessione and finale. Though differing in mood and texture, they all share themes and motifs. The solo cadenza between the third and last movement alludes, as quasi quodlibet suggests, to many motifs, in this case in the past and in the future. Duration c. 23 minutes. The product includes solo part & piano reduction. The orchestral material (instrumentation 2(II+picc)2(II+c.ing)2(II+cl.b)21-2200-11-str) is available for hire from the publisher.
