Louis Spohr's First Clarinet Concerto was written in winter 1808/09, at a time when the clarinet had just established itself as an orchestral and solo instrument. The concertos of Spohr and Weber which we know today and which date from these pioneer days around 1810 are due to the in-depth collaboration between composer and performer. Spohr wrote his technically very demanding clarinet concertos for the virtuoso Johann Simon Hermstedt. After the first successful performances, the composer decided to simplify the solo part for the printed edition. The Breitkopf Urtext edition is based on the autograph of the score and the first printing of the parts, which frequently differ from it. In the solo part, we have kept the easier variants along with the original version. From the early years of the clarinet concerto.

Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie is one of two concertante works completed, premiered and published during his lifetime. He was commissioned to write it in 1909 for the final examination at the Paris Conservatoire in 1910. Debussy orchestrated it in the summer of 1911. While transferring the clarinet part from the already published version for clarinet and piano, he made a few subtle changes, particularly in m. 201, which has been a bone of contention among clarinettists for over a century. The present scholarly-critical publication is the first Urtext edition of the orchestral version. It draws on every known source and takes into account a previously ignored source that sheds new light on the piece.

This book solves the problem with color coded music, making it easy for clarinet beginners to follow their ensemble part.Students only need to know 4 or 5 notes to play the first duets in this book, which covers Beginner and Preliminary levels. The music spans a wide range of composers, as well as traditional tunes from around the world. There is a selection of festive music, a section of rounds, plus there are warm up exercises, each focusing on one aspect of ensemble technique. The sense of longing, characteristic of every elegy, is really made for the tonal world of the clarinet. In this attractive concert piece, however, it is 'loaded with barbed hooks', as the composer once stated.

Louis Spohr's technically, extremely demanding concertos have long been part of clarinetists' standard repertoire. Like the first clarinet concerto, this second concerto was composed for the clarinetist Johann Hermstedt, probably in the spring of 1810. Critics praised the concerto at its premiere, stating that it was undeniably one of the most accomplished works of art of its kind. Emphasized was also the great and brilliant treatment of the solo instrument, combined with a very original orchestra accompaniment, where every part, even the timpani, is obbligato. The concerto was even then a great success with the audience. For publication, Spohr supplemented the solo part with various ossia passages as simplifying alternatives. These can of course be found in the score as well as in the piano reduction presented in Ullrich Scheideler's new critical Urtext edition in collaboration with G. Henle Verlag, now for the first time in a reliable edition.
