Forsyth's Modern Wind Music is a series of volumes containing exciting and challenging, but not unduly difficult, works by talented English composers of current or recent vintage for recital, study or recreation. Each volume includes three works with piano, one unaccompanied piece, and one piece for two or more players of the instrument. In this volume for clarinet John Casken's 'Taerset' takes its title from Tarset in Northumberland, inspired by a holiday there, while Julia Usher's 'Subsequent Darkness' is inspired by a game of chess. The solo work is a capricious 'Arabesque' by Richard Orton, who also contributes a quartet for clarinets that plays on diaphragm articulation. David Ellis's 'Berceuse' is an extended lullaby, but not without its troubled dreams.
Composed in 1940, Geoffrey Bush's Rhapsody F...(+)
Composed in 1940, Geoffrey Bush's Rhapsody For Clarinet And Strings has been transcribed here for Clarinet and Piano and is a great addition to the repertoire of both clarinettists and pianists. While enhancing cooperative skills between musicians, it also presents plenty of opportunities for the soloist to show off their talent. Duration ca. 9 minutes

Sir Peter Maxwell Davies on the music of Marc Yeats: Marc Yeats’ musical voice is quite unlike anything else; the music is challenging to both performers and audiences, and very communicative. He produces extraordinary compositions that not only look and sound good, but demonstrate a very high level of academic learning, while being breathtakingly original. This composition was written for bass clarinet soloist Sarah Watts, who did extensive research on bass clarinet multiphonics. This piece is a great illustration on the integration of multiphonics in contemporary music.

With Reading Key Jazz Rhythms: Clarinet Book & CD set by Fred Lipsius, you will learn essential jazz rhythms first hand from world-class professionals! Reading Key Jazz Rhythms is a collection of 24 easy to medium level jazz etudes, and 24 simplified guide-tone versions of the etudes. They are ideal for learning the basic language of jazz, swing phrasing, and articulation. A perfect tool for preparing for the jazz ensemble or for any other ensemble/orchestra which performs jazz related music (pops orchestras, musical, studio, movie scores, concert and marching bands, etc.). Each etude is based on a specific rhythm or a combination of rhythmic figures. Some etudes sound like very lyrical improvised jazz solos, while others are more like a melody to a standard. On the accompanying CD the soloist demonstrates the 24 melodious etudes together with a professional rhythm section. You can also improvise along with the play-along tracks using the chord symbols. The guide tones are the essential or defining notes for each given chord type. So if improvising is new to you and you find yourself getting lost, you can always return to a guide tone and play rhythmically around it. Any etude and its corresponding simplified guide tone version can be played together as a duet (with or without the CD accompaniment) with your teacher or a friend.

Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie is one of two concertante works completed, premiered and published during his lifetime. He was commissioned to write it in 1909 for the final examination at the Paris Conservatoire in 1910. Debussy orchestrated it in the summer of 1911. While transferring the clarinet part from the already published version for clarinet and piano, he made a few subtle changes, particularly in m. 201, which has been a bone of contention among clarinettists for over a century. The present scholarly-critical publication is the first Urtext edition of the orchestral version. It draws on every known source and takes into account a previously ignored source that sheds new light on the piece.

Following the huge success of their instrumental method Look, Listen & Learn, Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles.
Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists, aged eight and above.
Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world, music schools, and academies in the Netherlands and Germany.
Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The clarinet lessons offer clarinet -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band, with a focus on rhythm, melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Volume Two builds on the skills taught in the first volume and introduces pieces in three parts. In addition, supplementary material is available on the extensive website, e.g. demo- and accompaniment tracks for all pieces, additional pieces of music (well-known songs) and video tutorials. Learning Music Together is logically structured and illustrated in a child-friendly way - a perfect combination for young musicians!

The Three Pieces for solo clarinet (Fantasia Peruana, Partita Peruana and Capricho No. 12) all represent the Cusqueno sound that Guevara Ochoa popularized in Peruvian classical music. The Fantasia was originally scores for solo trumpet, while the Partita was written for solo flute. The Capricho was composed for solo violin. Because Guevara Ochoa was a violin prodigy, this work may most closely reflect Guevara Ochoa's original musical voice. All three pieces contain the hallmarks of his compositional style - short themes, huayno rhythms and pentatonic scales. I believe the Three Pieces provide contrasting representations of Guevara Ochoa's scoring for solo instruments. Additionally, each work presents its own unique challenges while demonstrating the composer's unique Andean compositional style.

This work, originally for clarinet and tape, was revised by the composer in 2019 and re-scored for two clarinets. The piece is preferably played with the clarinet soloist onstage playing the upper stave while the lower stave is played offstage by a second clarinettist. The name 'solo' refers more to a state of mind than a literal description of the piece.
