During his lifetime, Heinrich Schaffer (1808-1874) was a famous singerand singing teacher. With his compositions for male-voice choir, hewas very influential in northern Germany. Nowadays, little is left ofthis man?s fame. Only his song Die Post im Walde is regularly performedwith much enjoyment by many men?s choirs. This beautiful song is nowavailable for trumpet and concert band.

Dämonen (Ein Kinderlied) – English: Demons (A Children's Song) – by Arnulf Herrmann is a 21-minute work for orchestra and a record with the children's song Die Blümelein, sie schlafen (The little flowers are sleeping). On it, white noise and historical fragments of this song, preserved in various versions, can be heard. The recording is interwoven with the orchestra, sets the tempo and, not least, provides the timeframe by limiting it to the duration of one record side. But the end is only technical: The needle lifts, but the song is not over.
The premiere took place on 16 October 2022 at the Donaueschinger Musiktage, with the SWR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bas Wiegers.
The full score (EP 14634) is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired.

Schubert’s famous Ave Maria was originally titled Ellens dritter Gesang and was the sixth song in the Fräulein vom See song cycle (after The Lady of the Lake by Walter Scott). The First Nowell is a traditional Christmas song that can be traced back to the 18th century. The word â??nowellâ? is in fact derived the French word for Christmas, â??noelâ?. The First Nowell is sung in Englishspeaking countries around the world, although the actual text may vary by region and local customs. The simple and beautiful melody has made this carol a Christmas favourite. Lorenzo Bocci turns the melody into an elegant flexible four-part arrangement. The melody is known by the 17th/18th- century organ composers of suites Daquin, Balbastre and Dandrieu. Rondeau of the Shepherds was subtitled Catalan Christmas Carol. The song itself is because its origins in a Spanish (Catalan probably) Christmas song from the late Middle Ages, El Desembre congelat. The motives of this song (shepherds, flutes, drums) demonstrate knowledge of the Bible and give a picture of the late medieval Christmas experience. . Perfect as an uptempo intermezzoin a church service. . Ideaalals uptempo intermezzo in een kerkdienst.

The famous Barcarolle from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann opens the fourth act of the opera, which takes place in Venice. For this reason Offenbach chose a barcarolle - a Venetian gondolier song with its characteristic swaying rhythm. Wil van der Beek’s arrangement gives this romantic song an alternative, lighter beginning, making it suitable for almost any wind orchestra.

This Christmas carol of ancient European origin begins O Sanctissima and was intended as a tribute to the virgin Mary. A 19th-century translation by Falk gave us the words O How Joyfully that are typically associated with this carol. In addition to its colorful history, this carol has a very warm and expressive character. In this setting by Alfred Reed, the lilting melody is interwoven with a heroic trumpet counter-melody.
