In 1786 Mozart composed his wonderful opera Le Nozze di Figaro (KV 492). The Italian libretto, based on the play Le mariage de Figaro by Beaumarchais, was written by Lorenzo da Ponte—who also made the libretti of Mozart's opera's Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte. In the opera Le Nozze di Figaro, Count Almaviva tries to seduce the fiancee of Figaro, his valet. Eventually, through four acts full of complicated intrigue, he is outwitted. In his music, Mozart—at times in a humorous way—reflects the numerous social and erotic intrigues with both empathy and insight. The brilliant overture is just as vivacious and witty as the opera itself. Mozart delightfullyanticipates the passion and playful love that is to come. The skillful transcription for concert band by Tohru Takahashi certainly does justice to this appealing music.

Wonderful! But, aren't there too many notes? asked the emperor Joseph II. No, all notes are necessary. This is new music, replied Mozart. This is a famous anecdote about the premiere of the opera Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio), which took place on July 16, 1782 at the Burgtheater Wien (Vienna). It illustrates Mozart's ambition and self-confidence. Throughout Mozart's lifetime, Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail was his most successful work outside of Vienna. It is still a much-performed opera.Tohru Takahashi has made a lively arrangement of the overture in its original key, C major. It will sound even better if your band has Turkish percussioninstruments at its disposal. Tijdens het leven van Mozart was Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) zijn succesvolste werk buiten Wenen.

Mozart belongs to everyone! The experience of actually playing Mozart's music makes him real and more than just a name we associate with old music. Stephen Bulla's arrangement of the first movement of what may arguably be Mozart's greatest symphony has a great deal of authenticity. Much more than many just the tune type transcription/ arrangements, Mr. Bulla's work ambitiously explores a good portion of Mozart's miraculous musical development, so that your musicians can begin to understand the true genius of the Classical icon. Those who know Mozart will appreciate the integrity of the transcription. Those who don't know Mozart have a wonderful treat in store!A classic!

Quelle der Inspiration waren u. a. arabische Märchen.

It is widely believed that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) wrote the Adagio in E major, K. 261 in or around 1776 as a replacement for the second movement of his Violin Concerto No. 5 in A, K. 219. The likely reason for the replacement is a complaint by Italian violinist Antonio Brunetti, recently brought to the Salzburg court orchestra by the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg, Heironymus Colloredo, that the original movements was too artificial, according to a letter from Leopold Mozart. The Mozarts, finding Brunetti boorish and morally objectionable, also would have thought his complaint regarding the artificial second movement to confirm their worst opinions of Italian taste. Still, young Mozart wrote the replacement Adagio as requested, and its serene beauty in sonata form remains a fine example of his lyrical ability. Instrumentation: 2.0.0.0: 2.0.0.0: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Solo Violin in set.

The melody of Bundeslied originates from Mozart’s' Frimaurerkantate (KV62) from 1791. However research has shown evidence that it was probably composed by Johann Holzer, a freemason brother of his, but there is no definite evidence for this. Following the Second World War this melody was used as the basis for the new Austrian national anthem. Micheal Bilkes has adapted this beautiful, stately hymn for concert band. The result is a captivating work for both performers and audience.

Melodic contour and lightness of touch infuse Mozart's music with a divine character unmatched by any other composer. According to Dvorak Mozart is sunshine. Richard Strauss proclaimed Listen to the remarkable expansion of a Mozart melody. You think it's coming to an end, but it goes farther, ever farther. Alleluja from Exultate, Jubilate is perhaps the best-loved of all Mozart's motet melodies. Give your band the opportunity to experience Mozart's divine gift of melody with James Curnow's sensitive and accessible arrangement today! Charming!

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) completed his Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor in 1803, not long after writing the famous letter to his brothers, the Heiligenstadt Testament, in which he lamented his increasing deafness. He gave the first performance of the piece, as soloist, on April 5 in a public benefit concert at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. The opening melody in the first movement bears striking similarity to the first theme heard in Mozart's 24th piano concerto. As a whole, the piece provides an essential link between the Mozartean charm of the two earlier concertos and the more idiosyncratic work found in his middle period. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Solo Piano.

This dashing work in one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's more frequently heard German Dances (K. 605, No. 3), which he specifically titled The Sleigh Ride. The composition was originally written during the last year of Mozart's life in 1791. That year was one of his more productive years, composing other well known masterpieces such as The Magic Flute, Piano Concerto in B-Flat Major, The Concerto for Clarinet, and his very last composition, the Requiem which he finished only twelve of the fifteen sections before his death. German Dance captures the wonderful melodies, lively rhythms, and ingenious colors of Mozart's style. This is a charming arrangement with three separate bell parts bringing forth the festive sound of ringing sleigh bells. Arranged to re-create classical scoring, this joyful programmatic piece will be a favorite with young musicians and audiences alike.
