Gaia is a primordial deity in the Ancient Greek pantheon and is sometimes referred to as Mother Nature. In mythology she had numerous children, many of whom are of great significance to the ancient Greeks. Monterosi is a village in the Italian province of Viterbo in the Lazio region. This work is dedicated to the Accademia Musicale Francigena in Monterosi, on the occasion of the third ?Tommaso Albani? a national concert band competition at which the composer is often an adjudicator and guest conductor. It is a solemn piece, with lyrical tendencies, which demonstrates the glorious, full sound of the concert band.

Composer Norman Dello Joio (1913-2008) received an Emmy award for his 1965 score for the television program The Louvre. His concert band adaptation resulted in a five movement suite combining original material with themes by Renaissance composers such as Susato, Lully, and Cesti. In this arrangement for younger players, Robert Longfield skillfully truncates each movement and lessens the technical demands while carefully maintaining the essence of this masterful wind band repertoire classic. Destinée à ouvrir un concert avec brio et virtuosité, cette composition débute avec une énergie fiévreuse et des rythmes syncopés puissants dans un embrasement de couleurs. Les cors et les saxophones introduisent alors une ample mélodie, reprise par les trompettes après un changement de tonalité. Un moment plus calme introduit une fanfare lointaine par les cors par-dessus les doubles croches effervescentes des clarinettes dans le registre grave.
