Gemini Concerto was commissioned by and written for Ryukoku University (Japan), André Henry and Shoichiro Hokazono. Set in three movements, the concerto aims to explore the close relationship, as solo instruments, between the trumpet and euphonium, exploiting the many common factors between the two as well as the subtly different characteristics they possess in terms of both lyrical and rhythmic playing. The first movement is a bustling toccata and the second movement is lyrical and improvisatory in nature. A fantastic piece and a great addition to the repertoire! When writing his tuba concerto, Philip Sparke wanted to create a work which explored the many aspects of the instrument’s technical and vocal qualities but without resorting to caricature. The result is a concerto in two joined movements, which can both be programmed individually, that contains both many lyrical lines together with stunning virtuosic passages. An outstanding concerto that tuba players and brass band audiences alike will enjoy and applaud.

Saxophone Concertino is one of a series of solo concerti by Japanese composer, Satoshi Yagisawa. In this piece, the solo saxophonist's voice does not separate from the concert band, but rather develops musically and gently in combination with it. This work enables the soloist to showcase his ability with variety and grace. Saxophone Concertino si aggiunge alla serie di brani per strumento solo e banda firmati del compositore giapponese, quali Trumpet Concerto, Trombone Concerto, Marimba Concerto, Concertino for Solo Percussion and Wind Orchestra come anche Clarinet Concerto. Despite being very busy with three different Broadway musicals, Gershwin was able to complete the 'Concerto in F' for Piano and Orchestra in November 10, 1925. It was commissioned by the American conductor Walter Damrosch who conducted the premiere in Carnegie Hall later that year featuring the composer as the soloist. The 'Concerto in F' shows considerable development in Gershwin's compositional technique, particularly because he orchestrated the entire work himself. Argentine arranger Martin Jorge transcribed the complete concerto for piano with accompaniment of a Symphonic Wind Orchestra.

Contemplation is the first movement from the Clarinet Concerto by Jan Van der Roost, which was commissioned by Musica Reservata VOF, Belgium, and is dedicated to the famous clarinet soloist Eddy Vanoosthuyse. A slightly mysterious intro leads to an orchestral climax with ascending melodies and the entrance of the soloist. This occurs at first with fragmentary musical ideas, and then with longer melodic lines. The orchestra delivers the dialogue withthe soloist, and creates a fitting musical frame with a delicate and colourful instrumentation. Towards the end of the music, the atmosphere from the beginning is restored, and the soloist finishes on the same note that he started the piece on. LES DJINNS was written at the request of pianist Caroline Montigny-Rémaury, though César Franck's (1822-1890) short work for piano and orchestra was instead premiered on March 15, 1885 by Louis Diémer with the Société Nationale de Musique. The piece is inspired by the poem of the same name in Victor Hugo's LES ORIENTALES, as Franck represents the idea of the mysterious and supernatural forces tearing the nocturnal sky through their passage. Franck was impressed with the virtuosic playing and interpretation of Diémer in this difficult work, which sparked a renewed interest in the piano for the composer. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.4: 4.2.3.1: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Piano.

Every year a competition for wind orchestras and brass bands takes place in Wallberg, Switzerland. Apart from a hymn and a solo piece, all orchestras also have a compulsory piece to play. The commission to create a compulsory piece for the 2012 competition fell to Jan de Haan. The composition is entitled Musica Helvetica. It takes the form of a three-part concert work, in which the last two parts flow directly from one to the other. The first part, Musica Prima, is a brisk virtuoso opening with jazz flavours woven in. The following section, Musica Sacra, offers a contrast with an extraordinarily colourful instrumentation for the gorgeous main theme. Thefinal part, Musica Alpina, is inspired by the great variety of scenery in Switzerland. With its witty humour it makes a worthy conclusion to this beautiful tryptich.

Symphonie Fantastique, composed by Hector Berlioz, is a symphony in five movements based upon Berlioz's own experiences of disappointment in love. Tohru Takahashi's arrangement fully exploits the capabilities of the concert band whilst staying true to the tonal colour and textures of the original.
