EUGENE ONEGIN, based on a verse-novel by Alexander Pushkin, is Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky's (1840-1893) best-known opera. The story depicts the life of the titular Onegin, a Russian dandy who does not understand himself, his emotions, or the value of life, leading him to reject an impassioned declaration of love by a woman he looks down upon and instead pursue the fiancée of his friend, who he kills in a duel as a result of this pursuit. The provincial WALTZ, brought here to a higher level of sophistication by Tchaikovsky, is performed at the ball honoring Tatyana's name day at the beginning of Act II. The Other Side was written as a farewell to a loved one. This is a soulful and calm work that leaves plenty of space for the musicians’ and listeners’ own thoughts. This set includes optional parts for piano and vibraphone.

The Other Side is geschreven als afscheid van een geliefde persoon. Behalve het melancholische mineurthema komen in dit werk ook mooie herinneringen in majeur naar voren. Bovendien klinkt in de muziek de hoop door dat de betreffende persoon nueen goed leven heeft ‘aan gene zijde’. THE OTHER SIDE (De l’autre coté) se compose de trois mouvements ininterrompus exprimant tout d’abord, le chagrin que l’on éprouve la perte d’un être cher mais aussi les moments heureux passés avec lui. Alors que le deuxième mouvement s’achèvebrutalement sur un fortissimo, vient ensuite un dernier mouvement instaurant une ambiance impressionniste magique : il évoque l’adieu, le passage vers une nouvelle vie. Une œuvre lente qui privilégiera vos moments de recueillement.
