This wonderful arrangement by Toshihiko Sahashi is based on themes taken from the massive output of master-composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Several well-known melodies are combined with modern pop styles to form a work that has a unique combination of sound and styles. This fusion of styles creates a piece that will appeal to the musicians and audience alike!

Born in Venezuela, but raised in Paris, Reynaldo Hahn (1874-1947) was drawn early in life to fashionable salons, singing his own songs from the piano. There he mingled with such luminaries as Mallarme and Proust, the latter with whom he formed an amorous relationship. After the first world war, he accepted an appointment of voice teaching at the École normale de music de Paris. His colleagues included Nadia Boulanger, Pablo Casals, and Jacques Thibaud. One of many musical works he composed for the stage during this time, Mozart, a musical comedy (comédie musicale) in 3 Acts, IRH 52, premiered at the Theatre Edouard VII in Paris on December 2, 1925. The libretto was written by Sacha Guitry for their first of two collaborations. The Mozart Overture, here edited by R. Mark Rogers, serves as a vibrant introduction to this underrepresented work. A lot is known about the American composer Leroy Anderson. This son of Swedish immigrants played the piano, organ, accordion, trombone, tuba and double bass. He spoke several languages fluently and graduated from Harvard with first-class honours. While on military service, the army also commissioned him to write a manual on Icelandic grammar. He already started writing musical arrangements as a student, and from his 30th year arranged and composed for the Boston Pops Orchestra. Such melodiesas Serenata, The Typewriter, Sleigh Ride and Buglers Holiday made him world famous. His best-known work, Blue Tango, reached number one in the US charts in 1952, and it sold more than a million copies. In 1975, a year after hisdeath, he was given a star at the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. Most of his works last no longer than three minutes, about the maximum length of a single at that time. One work that lasts longer is his 1953 Piano Concerto in C for piano and orchestra. The first performance was in Chicago, conducted by the composer and with Eugene List at the piano. However, after three performances he was no longer happy with the work and withdrew it. He always intended to revise it, but never got round to it. Itwas only in 1989 that the Anderson family decided to republish the work. This three-part composition is on the one hand characterised by a careless elegance, but on the other one can hear the influence of Rachmaninoff, Copland, Gershwin, and evenBeethoven and Mozart, as well as the Viennese classics.Anderson used the sonata form for the first movement. It ends with a cadenza that carries us on into the second part (in e minor). The third part is a typically cheerful American folk dance in2/4 time, a so-called Hoe Down, with a lilting, lyrical passage as its middle section. At the end comes a solo passage followed by a rapid close. In this piano concerto, Anderson combines a rigidly classical form of composition with simple andappealing themes and elements from light music. So this work is a perfect synthesis of light music and what is called serious music, in the same way as Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue. A work that can be played equally well in a concerthall, at an open-air concert or even a pop concert. In 1786 Mozart composed his wonderful opera Le Nozze di Figaro (KV 492). The Italian libretto, based on the play Le mariage de Figaro by Beaumarchais, was written by Lorenzo da Ponte—who also made the libretti of Mozart's opera's Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte. In the opera Le Nozze di Figaro, Count Almaviva tries to seduce the fiancee of Figaro, his valet. Eventually, through four acts full of complicated intrigue, he is outwitted. In his music, Mozart—at times in a humorous way—reflects the numerous social and erotic intrigues with both empathy and insight. The brilliant overture is just as vivacious and witty as the opera itself. Mozart delightfullyanticipates the passion and playful love that is to come. The skillful transcription for concert band by Tohru Takahashi certainly does justice to this appealing music.

Mozart belongs to everyone! The experience of actually playing Mozart's music makes him real and more than just a name we associate with old music. Stephen Bulla's arrangement of the first movement of what may arguably be Mozart's greatest symphony has a great deal of authenticity. Much more than many just the tune type transcription/ arrangements, Mr. Bulla's work ambitiously explores a good portion of Mozart's miraculous musical development, so that your musicians can begin to understand the true genius of the Classical icon. Those who know Mozart will appreciate the integrity of the transcription. Those who don't know Mozart have a wonderful treat in store!A classic!

Melodic contour and lightness of touch infuse Mozart's music with a divine character unmatched by any other composer. According to Dvorak Mozart is sunshine. Richard Strauss proclaimed Listen to the remarkable expansion of a Mozart melody. You think it's coming to an end, but it goes farther, ever farther. Alleluja from Exultate, Jubilate is perhaps the best-loved of all Mozart's motet melodies. Give your band the opportunity to experience Mozart's divine gift of melody with James Curnow's sensitive and accessible arrangement today! Charming!

The melody of Bundeslied originates from Mozart’s' Frimaurerkantate (KV62) from 1791. However research has shown evidence that it was probably composed by Johann Holzer, a freemason brother of his, but there is no definite evidence for this. Following the Second World War this melody was used as the basis for the new Austrian national anthem. Micheal Bilkes has adapted this beautiful, stately hymn for concert band. The result is a captivating work for both performers and audience.
