Jubiloso, maestoso, tranquillo, lyrico, dynamic detail, captivating rhythms, woodwind choir, brass choir and more! All the elements of a great grade 3 festival piece are here. Tutti sections contrast with subtle and delicate scoring as this melodic masterpiece weaves its magic around the beautiful hymn “What Wondrous Love is This?” Careful attention has been paid to cross cueing so that bands that are missing an instrument here or there can still do a credible interpretation. Music for Life was commissioned by the members of Community Band South in Pittsburgh to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The band's motto, Music for a Lifetime, provided the inspiration for the title. It is a work always full of life and vitality, even in its more reflective moments. Because of this, the piece is almost totally melodic, relying little on development or other formal devices. A series of lively melodic statements precedes a slower central section, designed to showcase the band's talented clarinet section. But the moment of reflection is short-lived and the livelier music returns to end the work in the same spirit that it started.

This fanfare celebrates the students themselves, and their acheivement of completing their first year of musical studies. After a breif introduction by the entire percussion ensemble, the winds enter with a stately theme with martial accompaniment. A contrasting section features the woodwinds playing a tender melody before the percussion brings back the intial theme and ending the piece triumphantly.

So setzen Sie Ihre Musiker ins rechte Licht!

Celebration of Life is an evocative grade 3 composition that uses characteristic melodies to depict aspects of Jewish culture. A special feature of the work is the inclusion of sung passages which express both the painful suffering and joyful hope that have been part of the history of the Jewish people. Originally written for Sydney, Australia's Moriah College High School Concert Band and their Roberta Goot, composer Ralph Hultgren's newly-edited version is a significant addition to the intermediate concert band repertoire.

Philip Sparke selected two well-known marches from the region around Southern Belgium and Luxembourg as the basis for his March Celebration: after we hear an original march theme and second theme in the bass, extracts from the Hammelsmarsh (Hammelmarsch) and the spirited Marsch der Ardennen-Jager, which has become a kind of unofficial national anthem in these parts. This festive march is rounded off with another appearance of Philip Sparke's original theme.
