Duet for flute and alto sax (or clarinet)Perhaps Gilbert and Sullivan's most well-known operetta, The Pirates of Penzance tells the story of Frederic, who was apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted, orphaned pirates. A Sullivan Ballad uses Act 2's hauntingly simple love duet “Ah, leave me not to pine alone and desolate” as a duet for flute and alto saxophone (or clarinet).

Wit, warmth, charm, beautiful melody, vivacity; all of these, and more are abundantly evident. No wonder Jeuz d'enfants has been rated as a little masterpiece. Each of the three included movements is complete within itself and playable separately; together the contrasting styles and moods create an attractive Concert Suite.Jeuz d'enfants was originally written in 1871 as a Suite of twelve pieces for piano duet. Two years later, Bizet scored five of the pieces for orchestra to create a Petite Suite. Each movement shows Bizet's enormous skill as a miniaturist, the music exuding a concentration of power and atmosphere. This piece is based on the local folk song Dance to your Daddy, and comprises four of these scenes: a misty morning as a village awakes, the local brass band marching past, a love duet and a dance. The full folk tune reappears and musical fragments of each scene compete for the Angel's attention.Angel of the North takes its title and inspiration from the huge public sculpture next to the A1 road in Gateshead, England. Its wings are 54 meters wide, larger than a jumbo jet, and the statue stands higher than a five story building.

This Victor Lopez work evokes images of excitement, bravery and sorrow as Erebus and Terror: The Lost Ships retells the story of the Sir John Franklin expedition in search of the Northwest Passage. Beginning with anticipation as the explorers depart their homeland, the rousing melodic theme is written for clarinet, horn and alto saxophone. The excitement of the journey turns melancholic for a few moments, as the gravity of their journey sinks in, but their courage is again renewed as the trumpets tell the story. A haunting flute and oboe duet foreshadows the inevitable crash portrayed with strong chromatic dissonances, into the ice and the loss of both ships and their crews. The journey has ended for these men, but their story lives on and Sir John Franklin is remembered as a hero due to his valuable contributions to the development of Canada's north. Highly recommended!

This emotional and reflective work paints a stunning picture of the holiday season as seen through the eyes of a homeless person on a street corner. The music relies heavily on a juxtaposition of the Ukrainian Bell Carol and Greensleeves, painting a picture of a lonely person who is eventually joined by others. Ultimately, a quartet performs in dramatic fashion before switching to a final duet, leaving the homeless person with a granted wish - company. A stunning and unique work that brings incredible awareness to the holidays and the true spirit of giving.

Your beginning band students will love Andy Clark’s arrangement of this favorite lullaby, recently featured in many episodes of two very popular television series. Using only the first five notes students learned in beginning band instruction, every section of the band gets a chance to shine. The variations demonstrate how a melody can be played in different styles, providing excellent teaching opportunities. The brief introduction can be performed as a solo, duet or full section of trumpets, clarinets or saxophones. Fun for everyone at your beginners’ first concert!
