Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1125039-140). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. Offenbach (1819 - 1880), who was born in Germany, moved to Paris when he was a teenage boy and remained there for much of his life. He became especially famous as a composer of numerous operettas. and of one famous opera: Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann). His operettas (or ‘musiquettes’) were often based on comical, or satirical librettos. He makes fun of Parisian daily life, dignitaries, the military, the pretentiousness of the Grand Opéra, and so on. In that respect, Offenbach’s operettas are not really comparable with those of his German-speaking contemporaries, for example, Franz Lehár and Johann Strauss the Younger. Musically speaking, we could callOffenbach’s operettas lively, funny, melodious and catchy. For La Belle Hélène, Offenbach drew from Greek mythology. The story is based on that of Helen of Troy, but is set in France, halfway through the 19th century; it has been turned into a satire on the élite of that time. The overture to La Belle Hélène was (and still is) very successful. Offenbach combined a number of arias and choruses from the operetta to give a taste of what is to follow. Many overtures which follow this form lack unity and structure. However, in this case the composition has been well thought-out.
$45.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

$98.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 2.5 SKU: BT.DHP-1104862-140 March of the Women ( from The Merry Widow). Composed by Franz Lehar. Arranged by Wil van der Beek. Great Classics. Classical. Score Only. Composed 2012. 16 pages. De Haske Publications #DHP 1104862-140. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1104862-140). 9x12 inches. This lively, attractive march originates from one of the best-known operettas by Franz Lehár, Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), a work that brought the composer enormous success. The operetta features many lovely arias, and catchy dances, but also subtle passages and wonderful singable tunes. One of those is Ja, das Studium der Weiber ist schwer (‘The study of women is difficult’), a tune incorporated in the trio of this march. Lehár obviously had high expectations for it, giving it a prominent place within the operetta. He also used it as an effective finale piece.
Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1023257-010). Although he was born in Split, Croatia, of Belgian descent, Franz von Suppé’s nationality is defined less by his actual descendents than by the country and city where he lived and worked and had the great majority of his success, the Austrian capital, Vienna. It was here where, with assistance from the Johan Strausses and Franz Lehar, he helped to assure Vienna’s reputation as the operetta capital of the world. He achieved this by pioneering operetta as a major medium for the theatre. The overture to Light Cavalry is one of his two most famous works, the other being the Poet and Peasant Overture written as incidental music for a play of the same name.
$184.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

$98.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
