Written in the Italian style - with a pinch of Sousa, Marcia a Montecelio was composed on pure inspiration in just two days. This concert march will excite your audience and challenge your ensemble.Monticello is the name of a little place northeast of Rome where my wife and I have rented a simple home for more than 20 years. We participated intensively in the cultural life of the community where there was also a little band, the Banda Municipale Cornicolana, which consisted of about 55 wind players, mostly youngsters. One day, the Il Direttore came to me and asked if I would like to write a march for them, which I naturally did. It became the Marcia a Montecelio. After 14 rehearsals, with everyone tired, perspiring and red in the face, we were forced to give up. The march was too difficult for them. I then wrote another, easier march for them to perform at the forthcoming feast of San Michaeli. The Montecelio march was composed on pure inspiration in just two days. It is written in the Italian style - with a pinch of Sousa.

Start marching to a new destiny. From an original brass band musical by Michael Brand and Ian Chippandale, March: Song of Socialism is a rousing concert march sure to please any audience. This new arrangement by the composer is for full concert band.In the Red is an original brass band musical by Michael Brand and Ian Chippendale. It is based on Robert Tressell's famous socialist novel, The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists, which describes the trials and tribulations, the humour and the marriages of working-class life in Edwardian England. This powerful book has been allied to a powerful score and the show ends with the show's hero, Will Easton, exorting all the working men - painter and decorators - to embrace socialism and overthrow the bosses. In this Song of Socialism, the men start marching to a new destiny. It never happened in England of course, but it did elsewhere! The composer has now arranged this stirring march for Concert Band.

America is intended for any intermediate to professional concert band looking to honor the United States of America and/or members of the Armed Forces. It is therefore ideal for performance on or around any patriotic holiday. It is not a typical setting of the tune, in that many liberties are taken to showcase each instrument of the ensemble, with the melodic focus constantly shifting. The conductor and performers should seek out these moments, and bring them to life whenever possible. The introduction, mm. 1-12, should be approached in the style of a fanfare, with an emphasis on syncopation and exaggerated nuance in regards to articulation style. Here, hidden beneath woodwind flourishes and triumphant bugle calls, the low voices play quotes of familiar American tunes such as The Star-Spangled Banner (m. 1, beat 3) and Simple Gifts (m. 3, beat 4). In mm. 15-22 the melody is carefully hidden among counter lines. This should be carefully balanced to highlight the melody, while still shaping the counter melodies appropriately. A brief return to the fanfare style occurs in mm. 33-35 before melding back into the chorale style. In regards to dynamics, performers should be reminded that within any single dynamic exists a range of expressive shades. No two notes should be played at the same volume, ensuring direction in even the simplest of phrases. Generally speaking, the fortissimo dynamic should be approached thoughtfully, with the bulk of the sound coming from the lowest voices, and the least from the highest voices.America is intended for any intermediate to professional concert band looking to honor the United States of America and/or members of the Armed Forces. Kentish Dances was commissioned by the Bromley Youth Music Trust for the Bromley Youth Concert Band - Michael Purton, conductor. Bromley is in Kent, the most southeasterly of all the English counties. Kent has a rich folk history and, like many parts of the country, its own home-grown dance tunes. What has become known in England as “country dancing†became popular during the Elizabethan period amongst the middle and upper classes, who preferred the style to the more formal galliards and pavans of the royal court. This suite is based on three dance tunes that originated in Kent; the first is a sort of moto perpetuo based on two lively 6/8 tunes, “Dover Castle†and “The Fair Maid of Wickham.†The middle movement uses the rather sombre “Blackheath,†contrasting it with the charming and apt “Bromley Bells.†The finale uses the sprightly “We Are All Right at Canterbury and Ramsgate Pier,†using the lilting “Northdown Waltz†as a lyrical contrast.

Based on traditional Easter chants Fantasia di Pasqua is a tremendous work to feature four of your players in a religiously inspired work. Often this work is performed in church concerts or religious situations and, as such, the composer suggests that the quartet may be utilised performing from two ‘galleries’. This creates a wonderful double-choir effect that befits the Renaissance-like style of such great composers as Gabrieli. A truly inspired work to bring a touch of Renaissance class to your concerts.
