Mount Vernon Square derives its title from the location of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. It was here that the composer Joseph Compello took his first classes in Music Theory from Professor Haven Hensler, to whom this march is dedicated. After hearing this march performed on piano as part of final exam requirements in a Music Theory course, Professor Hensler encouraged further exploration of music composition, leading Compello into a prolific career writing pieces like this theme, now years later arranged for full band as a concert march. Performance Notes The form of the march is a standard A-BB-Trio-C-A. Melodically, much of the march is based on the figure contained in mm. 8 and 9. Tempo, articulation, and dynamics in a standard march style are essential to a successful interpretation. Pay particular attention to dynamics in the second strain at m. 41. Strive for a legato diminuendo at the transition in mm. 63-65. The melody in the Trio (m. 70) will also require smooth articulation from low brass and woodwinds. The Euphonium counter-melody will be played only during the repeat of the Trio. The Breakup Strain (m. 87) is, of course, powerfully marcato as is the reprise of the first theme at m. 109. Concert Band/Harmonie and Flute Solo - Grade 3.5 SKU: BT.DHP-1195859-010 For Solo Flute and Concert Band. Composed by Satoshi Yagisawa. Solo Spectrum. Solo & Concerto. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2019. De Haske Publications #DHP 1195859-010. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1195859-010). English-German-French-Dutch. Breeze in the Forest was commissioned for the concert to celebrate the 60th birthday of Professor Haruyuki Nakatsukasa of Osaka Kyoiku University. “Kanreki†is a special term used to celebrate reaching the age of 60 in Japan. The composer was inspired by some of Professor Nakatsukasa’s admirable characteristics upon composing this work: he speaks softly and at the same level as his students; he is fashionable, stylish and refined. The band accompaniment is at a moderate level of difficulty, allowing the solo flautist to choose this work for many an occasion.

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 4 SKU: BT.AMP-513-010 For Euphonium and Concert Band. Composed by Philip Sparke. Anglo Music Midway Series. Solo & Concerto. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2021. Anglo Music Press #AMP 513-010. Published by Anglo Music Press (BT.AMP-513-010). English-German-French-Dutch. Pulcinella was commissioned by the Taiwanese euphonium player Tzu-Hsiang Lin. Lin is a renowned soloist and teacher and a Besson Euphonium Artist. He teaches euphonium at Taipei National University of the Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, Shih Chien University and National Kaohsiung Normal University. Lin gave the premiere of Pulcinella in both its concert band and brass band versions in January 2021. Pulcinella continues Sparke’s series of euphonium solos named after characters of the Italian commedia dell’arte and opens with a long and expressive minor melody for the soloist over a brooding accompaniment. This is taken up briefly by the full band and is extended by the soloist after a change of key. A cadenza, accompanied by fragments of the main melody leads to a complete change of mood, tempo and tonality, introducing a Vivo section starting with a perky syncopated tune for the soloist. The band then uses elements of this new tune to introduce a change of key, where the soloist introduces a more lyrical second subject over a pulsing accompaniment. The band then takes this up and changes key to reintroduce the original Vivo melody, which leads to a short and acrobatic coda to bring the work to a spectacular close.

$186.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Regelski (SUNY Fredonia School of Music, Helsinki University of Finland) • Paul Woodford (Western University) • Charles Peltz (New England Conservatory of Music) In the wind band profession—as in every great discipline—it is critical to take stock in the big questions about where we are heading, and why, as we move through the twenty-first century. This thought-provoking book contains seven high-level exchanges between a leading wind band practitioner and a music education philosopher. Each section of The Future of the Wind Band grapples with the most profound issues facing the music education profession and the path of instrumental music education in our schools: Relevance: What relevance, if any, does the wind band have both to today’s students and to culture more broadly in the twenty-first century? What relevance does the band experience hold for students’ everyday life? Repertoire: What is the relationship between the repertoire performed by wind ensembles and the larger musical world? Pedagogy: What constitutes best practice in terms of musical pedagogy and rehearsal technique within the large-ensemble experience? Creativity: Can the wind band function as a vehicle for enhancing the individual creativity of its members? Economic Justice: How do issues of social class and the distribution of wealth relate to broader questions of social justice within the context of instrumental music education? Professional Ethics: What are the primary ethical responsibilities of the wind band conductor? Democratic Citizenship: What relationship, if any, can be drawn between membership in the wind band and citizen participation in democracy? Such exchanges can only strengthen our profession and pay rich dividends in our musical and educational work with the students we serve. Editor of this book, William (Bill) M. Perrine is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Activities at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he directs the wind ensemble, marching band, and community orchestra. $42.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

The piece furthermore takes its name from the text of the Yuying Secondary School song. This composition is based on three different concepts: the first one demonstrates ‘The founders’ passion for education’; the second concept illustrates ‘Hardship in war time’; the third one ‘To the future’ describes the inner strength people find to overcome struggles. Thispiece concludes with a fanfare, which is the sound of hope that leads to a brighter future in a positive direction. The world premiere of this piece was conducted by Faizal Bin Othman, who is one of the leading educators in Singapore, and was performed by the Yuying Secondary School Concert Band.

$47.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 4 SKU: BT.AMP-243-140 Fantasy on the canon Freu' dich des Lebens. Composed by Philip Sparke. Anglo Music Midway Series. Concert Piece. Score Only. Composed 2008. 36 pages. Anglo Music Press #AMP 243-140. Published by Anglo Music Press (BT.AMP-243-140). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch.
$34.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
