I Love the 207 was composed in February 2010 for a commission by Osumi Symphonic Band in Kyoto. It was first performed on 25 April 2010 by Osumi Symphonic Band, conducted by Masanori Ozaki. This piece begins with an introduction to present the instruments, followed by a light scherzo. The title is an affectionate reference to the commuter rail 207 series of the West Japan Railway Company. When the band started their activity, the 207 series trains began running through the fields next to the building where they practice. The composer hopes that the trains continue to run and bring smiles to people’s faces.I Love the 207 is in februari 2010 gecomponeerd in opdracht van de Osumi Symphonic Band uit Kyoto, Japan. Reflections on an Old Japanese Folk Song is based on the tune Suiryo-Bushi, which comes from the shamisen tradition and opens with two contrasting statements of the melody followed by several variations each in an own style based uponthe same tune, or sometimes only fragments of it. In one of the variants, the pentatonic scale is used. In each of the four movements of this major work for concert band, the composer has tried to capture in music something of the spirit of this beautiful Swiss town of Rheinfelden, which lies on the banks of the Rhein. The opening movement, Promenade, sees woodwind and brass alternating short melodic fragments leading to a noble melody from the horns. The dreamy Ballad features a saxophone solo and chorale-like melody. This leads, via a four bar Interlude, to the Scherzo which takes the form of a moto perpetuo.De componist heeft geprobeerd om met elk van de vier delen van Sinfonietta No 3 iets van de sfeer van deze mooie Zwitserse plaats Rheinfelden weer te geven. When writing his tuba concerto, Philip Sparke wanted to create a work which explored the many aspects of the instrument’s technical and vocal qualities but without resorting to caricature. The result is a concerto in two joined movements, which can both be programmed individually, that contains both many lyrical lines together with stunning virtuosic passages. An outstanding concerto that tuba players and brass band audiences alike will enjoy and applaud.De technische en lyrische eigenschappen van het instrument komen in deze compositie optimaal tot hun recht. Ainsi, la partie soliste couvre trois octaves et demie et exploite pleinement les qualitéstechniques et expressives de l’instrument.Tuba Concerto est une composition en deux mouvements joints qui peuvent également être joués séparément. Le premier mouvement débute lentement puis s’accélère progressivement. La cadence annonce la réexposition du matériel thématique initial. Le second mouvement, écrit en forme de scherzo, semble plus résolu mais chemine vers plus de légèreté. La reprise du matériel thématique initial offre une conclusion efficace et puissante.Ce concerto est également disponible dans une version pour Tuba solo et Brass Band (AMP 173-030) et Tuba solo et Piano (AMP 187-401).

Symphony no. 6 dates from the spring of 2009. It is dedicated to the conductor Károly Neumayer and his orchestra, the Pécs Railway Workers' Concert Wind Ensemble. About the work, the composer writes: 'This three-movement composition follows the classical traditions, but the first movement further develops the Scriabin-type sonata form, combining two fast movements. In contrast to the lyricism of the second movement a subterranean, negative force also makes its presence felt but in a dramatic conflict is overcome by the massive, inspired communal singing of the lyrical material, which becomes chorale-like as it emanates from the modal scales. The third movement is acheerful, dance-like scherzo, with comical, humorous sound-effects ' Die 6. Symphonie entstand im Frühling 2009. Sie ist dem Dirigenten Károly Neumayer und seinem Orchester, dem Bläserorchester der Ungarischen Staatsbahnen Pécs, gewidmet. Der Komponist schreibt über sein Werk: 'Die dreisätzige Komposition folgt den klassischen Traditionen, der erste Satz aber entwickelt durch die Verbindung von zwei schnellen Sätzen die Form von Skrjabin weiter. Sinfonietta: The Town Beneath the Cliff was commissioned by Holmestrand Ungdomskorps from Vestfold in Norway. The work is in four movements: a spectacular fanfare followed by a 'moto perpetuo'-like toccata. The third movement Hymn is a beautiful piece of music allowing the band to show its musicality and sound. The last movement Scherzo Finale opens with a short phrase from Holmestrand's own 'town song' - Holmestrandsangen, which comes again in full at the end of the piece, accompanied by a florid passage based on theopening theme.

A Moorside Suite was written in 1928 as a test piece for the National Brass Band Festival championship competition held that year. The three-movement work includes a jaunty Scherzo, a lovely Nocturne, and the popular March, which has enjoyed countless performances since its premiere. Douglas E. Wagner created this arrangement with younger players in mind. Though slightly abridged, the main themes and styles are present in a carefully-crafted performance piece accessible to concert bands at this level. This authentic arrangement still bears Holst's unmistakable musical signature. (3:35).

En 1909, Gustav Holst composa une œuvre audacieuse et novatrice, la Premiere Suite en Mib Majeur, op. 28 ndeg1 (First Suite in Eb major, Op. 28, No. 1), une suite exclusivement ecrite pour instruments a vent. A l'occasion du centenaire de cette piece, devenue un classique du repertoire pour Orchestre d'Harmonie, Jacob de Haan a compose la Memorial Suite en Ut mineur. Cette composition en quatre mouvements fait reference aux qualites stylistiques de l'œuvre de Holst, tout en s'appuyant sur le langage sonore et l'ecriture caracteristiques du style de Jacob de Haan. Le resultat est original.Comme Gustav Holst, Jacob de Haan a choisi d'ouvrir sasuite avec une chaconne, une forme de variation contrapuntique (a l'origine une danse espagnole a trois temps) dans laquelle un theme revient de facon recurrente accompagne a chaque fois par un nouveau contre-chant. Ce theme ostinato est utilise de differentes manieres tout au long des quatre mouvements, assurant ainsi l'unite de l'œuvre. Le second mouvement est un scherzo. Par sa progression et son caractere, il s'apparente a l'intermezzo central de la suite de Holst. Le troisieme mouvement, Song Without Words (Chanson sans paroles), porte le meme titre que le second mouvement de la Deuxieme Suite en Fa, op. 28 ndeg 2 (Second Suite in F, Op. 28, No. 1) composee par Holst en 1911. A mi-chemin de ce mouvement tres expressif apparait un solo de saxophone alto. Jacob de Haan conclut son œuvre par une Marche comme le fit jadis Gustav Holst.
