Carmen is the best known work by the French composer Georges Bizet (1838-1875). Criticised by the French public at the time of its creation because its plot was deemed indecent, the opera nevertheless came to be considered as a major work due to its captivating melodies, Spanish character and energetic rhythms. The arrangement for wind orchestra of Georges Bizet's L’Arlésienne Suite No. 2 by Franco Cesarini came about after the composer had long sought a version of the work that would satisfy him. Franco Cesarini remains completely faithful to the original version by revealing and highlighting each section and all the facets ofthe wind orchestra. The premiere of L’Arlésienne Suite No. 2 was held in Lugano on 27 March 2022, during the Spring Concert of the Civica Filarmonica conducted by Franco Cesarini.
