Written by the French flautist and composer Marcel Moyse, Beginning the Flute is a method for flute beginners. Created as a supplement for other existing methods such as Taffanel-Gaubert, Gariboldi, or Remusat, Beginning the Flute works as an introductory ABC and provides the beginner with preliminary exercises. These 26 pages consist of thirteen lessons in two pages, the first one to learn the technique and to develop a good sonority and the second to progress with these. If the player encounters difficulties with tempo or breathing for example, they could work on the first page of each lesson and come back later on the second ones, once more technique has been acquired. Considered as a maestro by some musicians, Marcel Moyse (1889-1984) has composed many flute methods and exercise books that are also published by Alphonse Leduc, such as Gammes et Arpèges (1933), De la Sonorité (1934) and Mécanisme-Chromatisme (1927). His methods are widely used and recognised worldwide.

Composed in 1936 by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962), a neoclassical composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1919, Pièce for Solo Flute was premiered by Marcel Moyse. This publication was written in three movements in two contrasting themes. The first theme is a slow lyrical melody compared to the second one which is much faster. The third movement of Pièce for Solo Flute brings back the first theme again but with more ornamentation this time.Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Divertissement' (1930). He also was in charge of the Académie de France in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera.

“Entertainment, composed by Raymond Gallois Montbrun is a piece for Flute and Piano. Written for the Contest of the Paris Conservatoire, it was dedicated to Gaston Crunelle, a French professor at the Paris Conservatoire. Quite challenging, this piece is perfect for advanced students and would work well for a contest or a recital. It features mild chromaticisms, changes of meters and rapid legato triplets and sounds very romantic. Raymond Gallois Montbrun (1918-1994) was a French violinist and composer who won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome and the Grand Prix de Paris. He later became the director of the Paris Conservatoire. He composed many symphonic pieces, an opera, a quartet and many pieces for Solo Piano, Violin and Piano and other instruments.â€.

Charles Camilleri (1931 - 2009) was a Maltese composer. As a teenager, he composed a number of works based on folk music and legends of his native Malta. He moved from his early influences by Maltese folk music to a musical form in which nothing is fixed and his compositions evolve from themselves with a sense of fluency and inevitability. He composed over 100 works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, voice and solo instruments. Camilleri's work has been performed throughout the world and his research of folk music and improvisation, the influences of the sounds of Africa and Asia, together with the academic study of European music, helped him create a universal style. Camilleri is recognized in Malta as one of the major composers of his generation. He died on 3 January 2009 at the age of 77. His funeral took place two days later at Naxxar, his long-time town of residence. Flags across Malta were flown at half-mast in tribute to him.

Olli Koskelin's high-spirited Tintinnio II for flute (2022) gives a new definition to virtuoso piece! This product is a B4 sized folder, sheet music (performance score) enclosed as loose pages.Olli Koskelin's (born 16 April 1955) compositional output reflects a wide range of interests. The vast area covered by his style encompasses the neo-impressionism of the piano work Courbures (1989) to the post-expressionist echoes of his Music for String Quartet (1981) as well as the breakneck virtuosity of his clarinet piece Exalte (1985/1991) and the rich romantic textures of his orchestral piece ... like a planet silently breathing... (1993). He often uses the overtone series like the French spectral composers and avoids dramatic culmination. Soft harmonics, tranquil arching melodies, a leisurely rhythmical pulse and a coherence of mood are in evidence in his later works as in Uurre (1997) for chamber ensemble, Miniatures (1997) for string quartet and Circles within for 19 solo strings.
