This edition presents a piece that belongs in the standard repertoire of every flutist: the Sonata for Flute and Basso continuo (“Hallenser No. 3”, HWV 376) in B minor by Georg Friedrich Händel. It allows you to work through the piece systematically and at different tempi with accompaniment. The recordings begin with the concert version of each piece, following which you will hear the piano accompaniment at slow and medium tempo to help you practise. Having mastered these slower versions, you’ll now be ready to play with basso continuo accompaniment at the original tempo. All of the versions were recorded live. Diese Ausgabe ermöglicht es Ihnen, das Werk systematisch und in verschiedenen Tempi mit Begleitung zu erarbeiten. Sie hören zunächst die Konzertversion eines jeden Stückes (Flöte und Basso continuo). Zum Üben folgt nun im langsamen und mittleren Tempo die Klavierbegleitung; anschließend können Sie sich im Originaltempo von der Continuogruppe begleiten lassen. Alle eingespielten Versionen wurden live aufgenommen. Cette édition présente un morceau qui fait partie du répertoire standard de tous les fl tistes : la sonate pour fl te et basse continue (“Hallenser n° 3”, HWV 376) en Si mineur de Georg Friedrich Händel. Les playbacks vous permettent de travailler l’œuvre systématiquement trois tempos différents avec un accompagnement professionnel. Chaque playback fait d’abord entendre la version de concert d’un morceau (fl te et basse continue). Mais vous y trouverez également un accompagnement de piano pour travailler un tempo lent puis un autre un tempo intermédiaire. Une fois un morceau maîtrisé, vous pourrez le jouer au tempo d’origine avec l’accompagnement de la basse continue. Toutes les versions ont été enregistrées en live.

As sources for this present edition served the manuscript marked Mus. ms. Bach St. 296 held in the Staatsbibliothek Preussischer Kulturbesitz at Berlin. The original title reads: Sonata / a / Flauto Traverso / e / Cembalo Concertato / di / J. C. Bac h. Our edition follows closely the manuscript except for the arrangement according to present-day notation (use of accidentals, the addition of slurs to tie the appoggiatura to the main note, etc.). Obvious errors are listed in the Critical Notes. Sl urs have been but in square brackets. The basso continuo marked in the original by figuring is given here in small print. Unsere Ausgabe folgt treu dem Manuskript, mit Ausnahme von der heutigen Notation entsprechenden Transkription (die Anwendung von Versetzungszeichen sowie der Ersatz von Bogen, die den Vorschlag mit der Hauptnote verbinden us w.) Auf die offensichtlichen Fehler wird in dem Kritischen Bericht hingewiesen. Die Bogen wurden dagegen auf Grund von eindeutigen analogen Stellen stillschweigend ersetz. Alle anderenZutaten stehen in eckigen Klammern. Der Basso continuo, der in de m Originalmanuskript durch Bezifferung gekennzeichnet wurde, wird hier in Kleinstich gebracht. Gyorgy Orban.

It is only fair that the Suite in B minor by J. S. Bach has become such a popular piece in flute literature. The version for flute and piano of the present edition has a double aim. On the one hand, it offers help for studying the work and solving the performing problems the Suite abounds in. On the other hand, it permits playing the composition (or incidentally only certain movements of it) by those, too, who would otherwise lack the opportunity of having an orchestra at their disposal.
