“Alpha is a piece for Horn and Piano accompaniment by Jean-Michel Defaye dedicated to Georges Barboteu, a professor at the National Conservatoire. Starting slowly with an exchange between the Horn and the Piano, this piece features a Cadenza section with a Horn solo followed by ?a Tempo? part (112). The final of the piece is to be played ?Lento? (60). This piece has some really strong and expressive moments, quite dramatic from time to time, and was initially written for a Conservatoire contest. It lasts approximately 8 minutes 40. As a pianist, composer, producer and arranger, Jean-Michel Defaye mainly created pieces for brass and wind instruments. He won the Premier Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1958 and the Belgian Queen Elizabeth composition competition in 1959.â€.

In 2014, I enjoyed a wonderful residence at the Ucross Foundation in Clearmont,Wyoming. Ucross is an artist colony that gives writers, composers, and visual artists thegift of time, space, and support to follow their artistic pursuits; we are provided withstudio space, housing, and meals so that we can work continuously on our projects. I havebeen in residence at numerous artist colonies; however, nothing in my previousexperiences prepared me for living in such isolated, wild country. Ucross is situated on a20,000-acre cattle ranch at nearly 4,000 feet in elevation with fewer than 150 peopleliving within the town. But what Clearmont lacks in population, it makes up forabundantly and spectacularly in wilderness and wildlife. I composed the sextet Postcardsfrom Wyoming to offer three glimpses of what I found to be the most striking aspects ofmy residence. The Solitude of Stars, the third and final movement of the original sextet, was inspired by the stunning nightly display of the heavens above. Without city lightsdimming the night sky, countless stars shone brightly over the vast expanse of the prairie. This edition is part of The Solitude of Stars Project that I undertook during the 2020COVID-19 pandemic, which consists of a series of arrangements that I made forcolleagues and friends. In 2014, I enjoyed a wonderful residence at the Ucross Foundation in Clearmont, Wyoming. With the publication of the score and parts of the D-major Horn Concerto K. 412/514, the Mozart expert Henrik Wiese adds another milestone to his edition of this important work group which was begun in 2013. In the course of time, the piece that was first edited in the Old Mozart Edition of 1881 as Mozarts 1st Horn Concerto turned out to be a pasticcio: while the opening movement is indisputably by Mozart, the elaboration of the Rondo must now be attributed to Sussmayr. This movement is transmitted solely as a sketch in Mozarts hand. The present edition contains both the Sussmayr Rondo (K. 514 = smWV 502) and the Mozartian Rondo fragment (K. 412) which was carefully completed by Wiese. The performer will thus have the choice between the traditional version (with Sussmayr) and the version presumably intended by Mozart, all in one practical edition. In Cooperation with G. Henle Verlag. EB 10701 contains the parts for horn in F and Eb.

The piano reduction and orchestral score and parts (available on rental) were prepared by composer/oboist Mark Biggam in tandem with Diaz's work, and the publication includes extensive historical notes by scholar Michael Finkelman. PEDRO DIAZ joined The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 2005 and has performed as solo English Hornist in hundreds of productions. As a sought after teacher, Mr. DÃaz has lectured extensively at top music conservatories including The Juilliard School, The Manhattan School of Music, The Eastman School of Music,The Hartt Music School, and Duquesne University.
