Forsyth's Modern Wind Music is a series of volumes containing exciting and challenging, but not unduly difficult, works by talented English composers of current or recent vintage for recital, study or recreation. Each volume includes three works with piano, one unaccompanied piece, and one piece for two or more players of the instrument. In this volume for horn two aubades by David Ellis and John Golland (Ascent) reflect traditional associations of the instrument, whilst Anthony Gilbert's Two Birds by Kuring-Gai show the horn in an unusual guise and where written whilst the composer was living in the spectacular landscape of New South Wales. James Langley's music is well known to horn players and his fanfare-like Caccia for solo horn and Trident for three horns are both welcome additions to a slender repertory.

“On the summits (Sur les cimes) by Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) is a very enjoyable piece for F Horn and Piano which lasts 7 minutes. Difficult to play, it requires the mastering of techniques such as the glissando, the lip trill and the mute. Also challenging because of its cadenza part, it was composed in one movement which features five sections. Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He composed several operas, chamber works and ballets among others.â€.

Following the huge success of their instrumental method Look, Listen & Learn, Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles.
Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists, aged eight and above.
Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world, music schools, and academies in the Netherlands and Germany.
Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The horn lessons offer horn -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band, with a focus on rhythm, melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Volume Two builds on the skills taught in the first volume and introduces pieces in three parts.In addition, supplementary material is available on the extensive website, e.g. demo- and accompaniment tracks for all pieces, additional pieces of music (well-known songs) and video tutorials. Learning Music Together is logically structured and illustrated in a child-friendly way - a perfect combination for young musicians!
