Using a comfortable moderate swing style, this masterful setting by Chuck Israels opens with the full ensemble then giving way to solo space for tenor sax. A key change announces the entrance of the vocalist who takes us the rest of the way out. Tender and very effective!

PULLIN’ PUNCHES is a brisk, free wheeling up tempo jazz piece in the Chick Corea bag. The essential theme has lots of brass punches within it, hence the title, and it includes plenty of fun for the Drummer with ample interplay throughout. A wonderful piece by one of the country’s greatest contemporary writers. No doubt, this chart is for more mature bands only! Terrific for festival use!

This jazz-flavored pop classic by Van Morrison is perfect for jazz ensemble. Roy Phillippe has taken this 'cool' tune to a new level of swing. There are opportunities for trombone, alto sax and trumpet solos, whether improvised or played as written. The technical demands are moderate, but the feel is really smooth. It's another solid chart from arranger Roy Phillippe! (duration 4:26).

Spice up your repertoire with hip-hop! The initial riff-based melody is augmented with pyramid figures from the rest of the ensemble. The coiled energy that is built up in this first section of the tune is released into the kinetic motion of the B section. This leads to an extended tenor sax solo that will really allow your soloist to stretch out. A stop time low brass feature follows, which leads back into the head of the tune, where the ensemble can ride it out to the end.

A sweet, melodic, light bossa nova - with a bite! Melbourne Walk-Up was inspired by the composer's visit to Melbourne, Australia, where, in the absence of an elevator in his hotel, he had to trek up the stairs with all of his luggage. Sorenson says: I composed this melody the following day, as I rested my sore back. Flexible orchestration allows it to be played by as few as 9 players. Additionally, everyone in the ensemble has an opportunity to improvise in the open solo section, and the set includes two suggested solos and a CD with a solo practice track, to facilitate successful improvisation.
