This CD contains recordings of all pieces and exercises featured on Trinity College London's Electronic Keyboard syllabus for Grades 4 and 5, valid from 2015–2018. The syllabus features a wide variety of musical genres and makes use of a wide range of keyboard functions, voices and styles.Improvisation pieces contain ad-lib passages to encourage inventiveness, originality and style. These have not been recorded, so students can use the CD as a backing track to practise for these sections.

These psalm refrains and Gospel acclamations are crafted to be singable and expressive. For each Sunday and Holy Day, a carefully selected musical refrain is paired with a Gregorian or modern psalm tone with the verse text set under the notation in large print. Through-composed verse settings for a number of the psalms are included, and many refrains have choral harmony. The CD-set contains recordings of all the responsorial psalms and Gospel Acclamations for Sundays, feasts, and solemnities, as well as common seasonal psalms, psalms for funerals, and other music. These psalm settings and acclamations coordinate with WLP’s worship resources but will find a welcome home in any parish setting.

During this time, the genre of the ricercare developed as a sort of instrumental motet and a kind of proto-fugue. Complementary to K49, this collection is a unique offering of music by John Amner, Nicholas Carleton and John Tomkins that is the only surviving keyboard music by the respective composers. In addition to a pair of duets, in themselves an unusual feature from the period, there are two lengthy sets of variations, Amner's being a rare example of those on a metrical psalm or hymn-tune (possibly by Tallis in this case), John Tomkins's being more conventionally modelled on the variation sets of William Byrd. Nicholas Carleton's 'A verse of 4 parts' and 'Upon the sharp' include several examples of unusual chromatic notation and wide-ranging tonal schemes. However, the early influences do not come exclusively from a single source. The toccatas of Hassler, the ricercari of Steigleder, the fantasias of Cornet and Kerckhoven, the fugues of Couperin, and anonymous late medieval keyboard music all are thrown into the mix, and blended with a contemporary use of mixed modality.
