arranged for Oboe and Piano-The Oboe Quartet in F major K. 370/368b was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in early 1781. The quartet originally arranged for oboe violin viola and cello is presented in this edition for Oboe with Piano accompaniment. In 1780 Mozart was invited to Munich to visit Elector Karl Theodor who had commissioned the opera Idomeneo for a carnival celebration. While in Munich Mozart renewed an acquaintance with Friedrich Ramm a virtuoso oboist in the Munich orchestra. It was for Ramm that Mozart composed the quartet in order to show off his virtuosity and the improvements that had been made to the oboe at that time. One way that this piece showed off theinstrument was the use of the 'high F' above the staff a note rarely played in any repertoire previously written for the oboe. This piece is a work of chamber music but it has elements that harken to other musical genres and requires a fair amount of virtuosity. Because of its large amount of virtuosic playing on the part of the oboe and the large degree to which the strings simply accompany the oboist it almost resembles a concerto but with only with four players instead of an entire orchestra. Despite this there are also a number of places within the work that require ensemble playing for example the famous 13-bar passage in the finale in which the oboe plays in common time against a 6/8 accompaniment.

Pièce En Sol Mineur Op. 5 is a piece for Oboe and Piano accompaniment composed by Gabriel Pierné. Its medium difficulty will enable intermediate players and above levels to play it and to appreciate its features. Really enjoyable this early work written in 1833 lasts approximately 2’30 and has been transcribed for many other instruments. It is perfect for recitals and concerts. The book contains the score and Oboe part. The score mentions the possibility of replacing the Oboe by a Violin or a Cello. Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) won the Prix de Rome in 1882.The composer wrotemany chamber compositions Piano pieces symphonic music and some oratorios.

An Evening in the Village was composed in 1908 as no. 5 of the Ten Easy Piano Pieces. It has become one of Bartók's favorite works which the composer himself was fond of playing at recitals. As he explained in an American interview it was ''an original composition that is ... with themes of my own invention but ... the themes are in the style of the Hungarian-Transylvanian folk tunes. There are two themes. The first one is a parlando-rubato-rhythm and the second one is more in a dance-like rhythm. The second one is more or less the imitation of a peasant flute playing.'' Bartók also orchestrated the piece in 1931 as no. 1 of HungarianSketches. In 2015 we are launching a series entitled Bartók Transcriptions for Music Students to mark the 70th anniversary of the composer’s death. This involves reissuing our tried publications and publishing some further new transcriptions that fulfill in every respect the strict aesthetic demands of the earlier ones. We trust these publications will allow us to introduce still more music students to the realm of one of the great geniuses of 20th-century music.

A collection of solos to provide repertoire and rehearsal material for the early Oboe student.

This title is taken from Dvorak. However. The models from which the songs are derived are clearly identifiable as are the composers from whose language they have been derived. The piece appears to be in one movement though it is in fact two with a coda. The first is French in style a sort of Waltz. It is quick and harks upon the likes of Françaix and where its idiom becomes more advanced Messaien. The other is Germanic a slow movement with echoes of German expressionism - perhaps Richard Strauss perhaps Mahler. The two movements are partly complete; the cod reconciles their differences and completes them. I see the piece as my own version of En blanc et noir.

These editions offer masterworks in French music, with performance suggestions and historical and stylistic commentary by noted scholars. Saint-Saëns composed this sonata for oboe and piano near the end of his life. Oboists often tackle it quite early in the course of their studies as it is relatively playable by young instrumentalists.
