It is difficult to determine exactly how many oboe concertos Antonio Vivaldi wrote. Although the present Concerto in F major was earlier seen as a secure work by Vivaldi (therefore it has the old RV-number 458), Vivaldi's authorship got even more disputable (in contrast to the C major Concerto RV 446 MR 2294). The doubts cannot even be dispelled by the existence of two sources from a large collection in Lund, Sweden. The Adagio central movement deserves our particular attention, as it was transmitted in different versions in the two sources. In this first edition for oboe and piano, the non-ornamented version is given first and followed by the version supplied by editor Sandro Caldini with ornaments typical of Vivaldi's time, which make this version of the Adagio particularly interesting for performers. In this first edition for oboe and piano, the non-ornamented version is given first and followed by the version supplied by editor Sandro Caldini with ornaments typical of Vivaldi's time.

Max Reger's well-known Romance in G major WoO II/10 was written as a supplement for the Neue Musik-Zeitung, which was the recipient of works - particularly songs and piano pieces - by Reger in the years 1900 and 1901. Reger himself designated his Romance shortly after its publication as an occasional piece of the worst kind - for me! The work was published in 1910 both in its original scoring for violin (and piano) as well as in its first arrangements for other solo instruments.Reger designated his Romance shortly after its publication as an occasional piece of the worst kind - for me!.

This edition replaces the old Nova Edition NM394 and the subsequent but also now defunct EMA142. Both previous editions are now out of print. This is a freshly edited, updated and greatly improved edition.[bg_collapse view=link color=#4a4949 icon=arrow expand_text=Show More collapse_text=Show Less ]Gioacchino Rossini: Variations for Oboe and PianoRossini was still a student at the Liceo Filarmonico in Bologna when he wrote these Variations at the age of 18. Originally thought to have been written for Clarinet in C and Orchestra, recent scholarship, culminating in Heinz Holliger’s brilliant recording (Philips 9500 564), has provided many good reasons why the oboe is clearly the solo instrument. Not only does it ‘look like’ oboe music but the writing (within the oboe’s exact range at that time) ignores more than an octave of the clarinet’s potential range. Also, it is most unusual to find the solo wind instrument duplicated in the accompanying orchestral parts, thus providing unnecessary competition in timbre.Frédéric Chopin: Variations on a Theme by RossiniNo such ambiguity surrounds the origin of Chopin’s Variations on a Theme from Rossini’s opera La Cenerentola — orginally for flute. It is not definitely known for whom they were written, but they may have been either for his father (who played the flute), or for his close friend Matuszynski. They date from 1826-30 and here transposed from the original E major into D major for the oboe, provide a valuable addition to the oboist’s nineteenth century repertoire.[/bg_collapse]Arranged by Mark GoddardGrades 7–8Former Spartan Press Cat. Composed for oboe and piano accompaniment, Piece V by Cesar Franck is a melodious piece for intermediate players. The piece begins with a quiet introduction starting Andantino quasi allegretto. The main theme is then played twice with the piano introducing each phrases followed by the oboe repeating them. The piece ends in a really nice harmony between the oboe and the piano. There is no major difficulty in this really soft work which would be thoroughly enjoyed by the audience during a recital. Cesar Franck (1822-1890) was a renowned musician (organ and piano), composer and professor born in the United Kingdom of Netherland (Liege) who was based in Paris. Even though he only produced few compositions, some of these pieces were very famous such as Symphony in D minor and Prelude, Chorale and Fugue among others.

Andante for oboe and piano was found only after the composers death in 2014. According to his private notes discovered by his family, it was written in 1951, which means that it is one of its earliest compositions. This one-part work, set in neoromantic aesthetics, is based on two themes. The first one - in D Minor - initially appears in the piano part, and then it is captured by the oboe. It puts a listener in a tranquil, sentimental mood. The second one - in D Major - is livelier and jollier (piu mosso), though in terms of melodic motifs some of its fragments come closer to the first theme in a form of its variation-style development. This is capped by a solo cadenza of the oboe that leads to the recapitulation of the first theme and the following tranquil, cantilena-style coda. Jozef Swiders Andante for oboe and piano, despite its charming simplicity, is a work full of reverie, nostalgia and subtle melancholy. This proves the young composer's liking for clarity, lyricism and romantic expression, typical of his late artistic work.

White Light was commissioned by Fumiko Teramoto, oboist with the Musashino Grand Concert Band from Tokyo, Japan. The request was for a moderately slow piece, of intermediate difficulty, which included White in the title, as this is her lucky colour. Composer Philip Sparke decided to use this suggestion to write a piece that was bright and light in terms of harmony and colour, with much use of simple major and minor chords and an emphasis on pure and transparent timbres. He was also keen to capture the essence and history of the oboe as a solo instrument - the piece is pastoral in character and often almost baroque in style. Also available for oboe and concert band (AMP317-010/140).

“Born to an Italian father and a French mother, Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) divided his music studies between the Academia Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Conservatoire de Paris, where he was taught by Henri Büsser and Henri Rabaud. His chamber music compositions reveal a marked predilection for wind instruments, as reflected in Fantaisie pastorale for oboe and piano (1939) and New-Orléans for bass saxhorn and piano (1944). During his stay a few years earlier at the Villa Medici in Rome (1936), Bozza had written his Aria Pour Saxophone Alto Et Piano ' a free adaptation of the third movement of Johann Sebastian Bach's Organ Pastorale in F major BWV 590. This expansive and nostalgic melody, which unfolds over a regular meter, has become one of the most widely played SaxoEphone pieces in the world. Having enjoyed such success, Éditions Leduc has decided to supplement its republication with an audio version that will enable saxoEphonists to carry out 'full-scale' practice.&rdquo.
