French oboist, Louis Bleuzet (1874-1941) studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he won first prize for oboe. Being a virtuoso of the instrument himself, his The Technique of the Oboe is very well-informed. Bleuzet's career saw him become soloist at the Paris Opera as well as a professor of the oboe at the Paris Conservatoire. Published in 1937, The Technique of the Oboe was compiled by the composer toward the end of his life. The second volume gives focus to scales in thirds and fourths, mechanical exercises, whole tone scales and the chromatic scale. With detailed instruction in English, French and German, this Bleuzet study book is highly versatile and essential to the progression of all oboist's technique.

I was inspired to create this work after attending a Greek mythology seminar at the University of Geneva: a collection of solo oboe or English horn pieces, allowing a certain freedom of improvisation to the performer. The muses are often shown in Ancient Greek art, holding musical instruments or other associated objects. The Nine Muses came to life initially in 2006, thanks to Phylloscopus Publications and K. R. Malloch.â?? Ayser Vançin.

Even though the Frankfurt composer Kurt Hessenberg (1908-1994) made a lasting impression, especially by his sacred choral music - his motet 'O Herr, mache mich zum Werkzeug deines Friedens' forms part of the repertoire of every good choir - his career as a composer began with piano, chamber and orchestral music. All his life Hessenberg remained faithful to these genres. Between 1958 and 1963 he wrote five miniatures which he put together into Opus 71 and in which he let the five instruments of a wind quintet have their 'say' separately and with piano accompaniment: flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon.Created in 1958, 'Capriccio' Op. 71 No. 2 is dedicated to the oboe. It is an enjoyable and rewarding piece in a neoclassical style characterized by an extended tonality. This 'Capriccio' gives the oboist the possibility to play in an effective virtuoso, yet cantabile way and, in addition, uses piano accompaniment in a rewarding manner - a welcome addition to the oboe repertoire.

The inspiration for Chants de la Terre (Songs of the Earth) and Le Réveil (The Awakening) was born during my creation of the musical theatre show â??dâ??Exil en Exilâ?? (performed at numerous international festivals) on the poetic work of Nazım Hikmet, (the great Turkish humanist poet). In this show, among other compositions, I sometimes played this music to accompany the poems â??Chants des Hommesâ?? and â??Réveilâ?? and sometimes played the pieces solo as a musical meditation.Chants de la Terre and Réveil came to life initially in 2007, thanks to Phylloscopus Publications and K. R. Malloch.â?? Ayser Vançin.
