Written by Ferdinand Gillet, a brilliant Oboe professor, this Twenty-minute study is a set of daily exercises for Oboe players. Each exercise is a bit less than a page length and focuses on fundamentals such as trills, arpeggios, register changes in major and minor keys, velocity and most difficult intervals. This set of exercises would definitely benefit upper intermediate/advanced Oboists, and is a really good method to increase technical skills. Ferdinand Gillet (1882-1980) was also the main soloist at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. French composer and teacher, Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded, Concerto for Oboe being no exception. Milhaud's compositions are influenced by jazz and polytonality, as exemplified in Concerto for Oboe, which includes a Piano reduction accompaniment. Even though the Frankfurt composer Kurt Hessenberg (1908-1994) made a lasting impression, especially by his sacred choral music - his motet 'O Herr, mache mich zum Werkzeug deines Friedens' forms part of the repertoire of every good choir - his career as a composer began with piano, chamber and orchestral music. All his life Hessenberg remained faithful to these genres.
