Called Concerto No. 2, it was written before what is known as Concerto No. 1 (Op. 11). The piece is also available in other Urtext National Editions. 00132292 is the version for one piano. 00132242 is the two piano reduction. 00132289 is a historical version of the full score. The National Edition of the Works of Fryderyk Chopin Published by PWM Exclusively Distributed by Hal Leonard Corporation Co-Editors Jan Ekier and Pawel Kaminski The objective of the National Edition is to present Chopin's complete output in its authentic form, based on the entire body of available sources. Sources were analyzed with up-to-date scientific and musicological methodology. The National Edition was based on sources originated from the composer, mainly autographs, copies of autographs and first editions with the composer's corrections, and pupils' copies with Chopin's annotations. In cases when original sources were lacking, the closest possible materials were used. Collecting the source materials was a laborious task which took years of effort. The characteristics of sources, the links and discrepancies between them as well as the reasons for particular editorial decisions are discussed in the Source Commentary in each volume. The Performance Commentary appended to each volume includes: the realization of ornaments, comments on pedal markings (the original markings sometimes are inadequate, due to the difference in sound between pianos used in Chopin`s times and modern pianos), suggestions as to the harmonic legato (a performance technique often used by Chopin and now forgotten). This concerto was rediscovered by the editor in Paris. Its style is late classical - virtuoso and very guitaristic. The orchestral accompaniment is rather simple and transparent. An effective piece parallel to the widely-played concerto in A major by this composer.

Bach's harpsichord concerti, extremely popular among pianists, are presumably reworkings of pieces originally written for the violin. Bach, however, succeeded in transferring the diverse idiosyncrasies of violin technique to the keyboard with such ingenuity that most of today's pianists also include these concerti in their standard repertoire. The first concerto in D minor is perhaps the most popular - not least because of its jaunty outer movements and the eminently forceful solo part. Now, as a prelude to a series of all of Bach's harpsichord concerti, G. Henle Publishers presents a piano reduction and study edition (score) of the D-minor concerto. None other than András Schiff, the outstanding Bach expert, has provided fingering suggestions.

Handel’s Concerto in F major (HWV 331) was long considered a variant of two movements from the three suites of his “Water Music†(HWV 348-350). Recently our understanding of the “Water Music†had to be thoroughly revised owing to new scholarly discoveries. Not only did the structure of the three suites prove to be unhistorical, but Friedrich Chrysander’s 19th-century view turned out to be correct: the two “variants†actually constitute an independent concerto. In musical terms, HWV 331 is related to two movements of the “Water Music†and is frequently performed alongside them. Now it is available for the first time in a performing edition based on the already revised volume of the “Halle Handel Editionâ€, which reflects the current state of scholarship concerning the complex source tradition of the “Water Music†and the Concerto HWV 331.

A commission by a consortium of orchestras led to Leshnoff's first Violin Concerto. For its premiere by the Columbus Symphony (Markand Thakar, conducting), Leshnoff consulted soloist Charles Wetherbee, after which the Concerto underwent extensive rewrite. This revised version would lead to standing ovations and critical acclaim. As Wetherbee has noted, From the first time I heard Jonathan's music, I felt there was something in it that makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. It feels like it's coming from the heart. Violin Concerto No. 1 is recorded on the Naxos all-Leshnoff album with Distant Reflections.

With his first horn concerto, the merely eighteen-year-old Richard Strauss succeeded in producing a captivating masterstroke. To this day, the concerto is beloved throughout the world (not only) by horn players, and together with Mozart's masterworks, numbers among the essential pieces in the instrument's repertoire. Peter Damm, former principal horn for the Staatskapelle Dresden and world-class soloist, has not only performed the concerto publicly over 170 times himself, but has also presented pivotal research findings and publications on its genesis. Prepared after reviewing all surviving sources, the Urtext edition he has edited may thus been regarded as the edition of reference. The orchestral score, available in a practical study edition, eliminates innumerable errors from the first edition.

Hartke's cello concerto, Da Pacem, takes its title from a Latin hymn that begins “Grant peace in our day.” It is a reflection on these unsettled and unsettling times. As the work's protagonist, the solo cellist journeys through a considerable variety of musical landscapes. Movements: I. Da Pacem (Fantasia) II. In diebus nostris (Scherzo) III. Quis pugnat pro nobis? This concerto for oboe and string orchestra in G major first appeared under the name of Giovanni Platti. According to new research by the present editor, however, it can be attributed to the Catalan composer Juan Bautista Pla, who lived in the middle of the eighteenth century. Pla worked as an oboist at the Portuguese Royal Court an was a member of the Wurttemberg court orchestra under Niccolo Jomelli in Stuttgart from 1755-66.

The Handel op. 6 concerti are absolute gems of the Baroque string orchestra literature. While the parts to these concerti are widely available from a number of sources, they contain no bowings or fingerings, and no phrasing indications. Many orchestra directors do not have the time to prepare the parts that are available for purchase or download with these markings, yet without thorough editing, it is extremely difficult to achieve a musically unified high-quality performance of these pieces. It is my hope that this edition will serve the needs of the string education community who are interested in performing these works. This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

The famous first movement of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, arranged by Richard Meyer, has been simplified and shortened for the first-year player but still retains all the energy and spirit of the original. It uses only the notes of the D major scale (including a few high E's for Violin I), and the rhythms are within reach of players with very little experience. The perfect selection for your beginning orchestra's first real piece, this arrangement is sure to become a traditional part of your string curriculum.

Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) dedicated his CONCERTO for Piano No. 1 in D-flat, Op. 10, to his teacher Nikolai Tcherepnin. Composing it in the years 1911 and 1912, he gave the premiere in Moscow on May 18, 1912 under the baton of Konstantin Saradzhev. On July 25, his performance of the work for the Saint Petersburg Conservatory earned the Anton Rubinstein Prize and a newly-built grand piano. About thirteen minutes in length, it is performed in one continuous movement, displaying the ambitious energy of the young composer. Instrumentation: 2+Picc.2.2.2+CBsn: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(1) Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set) [solo piano not included]. Reprint edition.
