His concertos justifiably rank among the milestones of solo music accompanied by orchestra. In Viennese Classicism, piano music flourished thanks to innovations in the instrumental technique, and even Mozart fully exploited the advantages of the fortepiano action over the rigid sound of the harpsichord in his works.Piano Concerto No. 25 is Mozart's longest concerto. The harmonic structure, the continuous change between major and minor, the witty dialoguing between solo and orchestra, the strong contrapuntal saturation, the frequent use of the pedal point as well as the overflowing melodic abundance give the work a character all its own.

The harmonic model for this piece is based on a subdivision of pitches in primary and secondary notes, in principle any chord can be viewed from it's structural qualities including interval content and symmetry, but it might also be conceived from a more acoustical point of view. The parallel basis for this work is a sequence of 12-tone chords repeated as a chaconne, every chord has it's Alter-Ego, an overtone series the fundamentals of which together form a bass line. By articulating the cycle differently, with always varied diagonal paths between two layers Lindberg has aimed to give the music some direction despite it's vague repetitive structure. Work for Orchestra premiered at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, by the London Sinfonietta under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen, April 1990.

Written to recognize the indigenous peoples in this nation, the haunting melody captures the many trials they have encountered. The heartbeat is reminiscent of the American Indian drum, and the entire piece incorporates other elements many traditional tribal songs. Every section has a chance to shine. Hardcover full score. Introductory texts presented in English, German, and Polish. The Lithuanian Rhapsody (Rapsodia litewska), Op. 11 is the third - after Returning Waves and Eternal Songs - of the six symphonic poems by Mieczyslaw Karlowicz. Composition was probably taking shape during the summer months of 1906 in Warsaw. Lithuanian Rhapsody differs significantly from the other parts of 'programme cycle' which Mieczyslaw Karlowicz's symphonic poems may be regarded as forming. This is a work based primarily on thematic material derived from folk output (something that would never again occur in the composer's brief biography), compared with the earlier score of Eternal Songs or the later Stanislaw and Anna Oswiecim it displays much greater stylistic independence of the German music embodied around the turn of the twentieth century.

Like my oratorio Novae de infinito laudes, this work, too, has been influenced by the human world and the scenery of Rome, indeed, perhaps even by the greater hardness of the roman language compared to that of Naples. The first four notes of the subsidiary theme of the second movement which appears for the first time in bar 36 are borrowed from the song My own, my own from the second act of my opera Elegy for Young Lovers; they appear again and again in various forms, even in the second and third movements.- Hans Werner Henze.
