The twelve pieces in A Festive Christmas have been arranged for various wind instruments - providing that brilliant sheen, so apt at Christmas time. The pieces can be performed with organ or piano accompaniment. Jan and Jacob de Haan looked at many different sources for their inspiration: three pieces were chosen from Handel's oratorios, as well as traditional Christmas carols, and two Christmas medleys. As with the previous Christmas Carol Trilogy releases by Rudolph, rather than simply written for solo instrument with organ accompaniment, the organ and trumpet (in this case) are coequal participants. This release is a medley of My Dancing Day, Coventry Carol, and lastly, Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, which, once you hear arranged in 7/8 will never sound the same.

Solstice Sonata (2013) for trumpet and organ was commissioned by the American Guild of Organists for its 2014 Biennial National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. It was premiered on June 24, 2014 at the Memorial Church, Harvard University, by trumpeter Chris Gekker and organist Christian Lane. At the solstice (summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern), the sun is directly aligned with the tropical latitude lines, and the longest day of the year occurs (marking the start of summer). This sonata is music of celebration and contemplation, taking the inspiration of the longest day as a starting place for both meditation both thoughtful and joyous. Take Flight soars and leaps with vigor-perhaps the image of a hang-glider's journey over a dramatic landscape under the late evening sun. The Dream of Peace is lyrical and passionate; it is perhaps night music of reflection and intensity. Glittering, Aglow begins with quiet, mystical music: a gradual awakening. A vibrant, syncopated dance breaks out, is interrupted by the quiet music again, and returns to push forward to a vibrant conclusion. The new season has begun.Instrumentation: Trumpet and Organ. These four movements for trumpet and organ are arranged in a slow–fast–slow–fast order. They may be played in a group or separately. Quiet Time has a gently rhythmic motion and a calm, expressive trumpet part. Happy Time is full of rhythmic bounce and exuberance. Simple Time is based on the Shaker tune Simple Gifts, but is slow and contemplative, rather than lively. Closing Time is bold and syncopated, with a touch of rag. All the pieces are intended to be in the middle range of difficulty for the instruments, and are for enjoyment in either a concert or church setting. The organ part can easily be adapted to piano.
