Inspired by Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra, Harald Feller wrote this work for organ and narrator. By combining musical, technical and tonal possibilities of the organ, he wants to arouse the listener's interest and enthusiasm for organ music and make it accessible to a wide (not just young) audience. This work of about 20 minutes' duration can also be performed without narrator.

Organ Symphony No. 2 (2017) was written for and is dedicated to German organist Philip Hartmann. In all of my works that employ larger-scale forms (not just organ compositions), I am continually looking for different ways of providing the form and structure. My first organ symphony (2013) comprised three larger movements that charted a progression from dark to light. By contrast, this second organ symphony comprises 12 shorter movements that together build a larger structure out of varied emotional states. Although the movements are different in character, there are connections of harmony and motive across them. One goal behind this work is that it be suitable for effective performance on almost any organ, small or large. Most organ symphonies require a large instrument. By contrast, this piece can be played effectively on even a small organ with a limited number of stops (even a one manual organ with an octave pedal board). It can also be very effective on a large symphonic organ with many different colors and a huge tutti. Registration is left to the performer's discretion, and the organist is strongly encouraged to use the full extent of whatever resources are available. The Concerto for organ, strings and percussion by Kay Johannsen, Kantor of the Stiftskirche in Stuttgart, is a valuable addition to the repertoire for organ and orchestra. It is a work composed to appeal to both performer and audience alike - with thrilling rhythmic sections as well as moments of great intimacy. The organ part, for a three manual instrument if possible, is shown to its best advantage in many and varied tonal colors, ranging from the most delicate solo registrations to powerful forte. The organ writing is demanding, but well within the capabilities of experienced organists. Precise registration suggestions are contained in the score. The string orchestra (minimum 4/4/3/3/1) is scored with sophistication, with solos for all instruments. The percussion is for two players - a part for timpani and one for other, readily available percussion instruments. By avoiding the use of wind and brass instruments, the work can also be performed where the tuning of the organ is not ideally suited to modern orchestral pitch. Score and part available separately - see item CA.1808500.

Song of Hope, composed by Kay Johannsen the Kantor of the Stiftskirche in Stuttgart in 2016, is a Fantasia in G minor based on a six-measure melody. It is improvisatory in style and has a melancholy basic character. Over the course of the work, the melodic idea is varied rhythmically several times, and is heard in the treble, tenor and bass registers. Against a quiet basic pulse, the accompanying harmonies appear in the manuals and pedals mostly in subtly matching rhythms, reminiscent of a saxophone soloist with a discreet supporting jazz band. The dynamic of the piece grows from piano to a fundamental forte, and for the conclusion a fine pianissimo is required. Song of Hope is composed for two-manual organ, with a duration of four-and-a-half minutes. The expressive harmonies and the hidden swing of the music communicate directly with audiences, including those with less musical experience.

Kennebunkport Suite (2016) was written for and is dedicated to Joyce Painter Rice, First Congregational Church, Kennebunkport, Maine, and the church's 1854 E. & G. G. Hook pipe organ (Opus 177). First Congregational Church is a congregation that particularly enjoys singing the classic hymns, and this organ suite thus consists of preludes on three well-known old American hymns: Foundation (How Firm a Foundation), Bethany (Nearer, My God, To Thee), and Land of Rest (Jerusalem, My Happy Home.) (Although conceived originally for a small one-manual pipe organ with divided stops and pedals, the work can be played effectively on any organ.) Hermann Schroeder's abundant oeuvre in the field of chorale-bound organ music is much less known among organists than his free - especially the concertante - organ works, although Hermann Schroeder as an organist felt particularly bound to liturgy and liturgical singing. And according to him, any liturgical organ music should always bear a direct relation to singing. The purpose of the present anthology is to provide the player a representative selection of Schroeder's chorale arrangements. Most of these chorales are relatively short and of medium difficulty at most. The chorale melody can be heard well most of the time so that the pieces are ideal for being used in church services. In the alphabetical index, the beginnings of song titles are accompanied by the corresponding number from Gotteslob (GL) or the Protestant Hymnal for better orientation.

Josef Gabriel Rheinberger dedicated his 9th Organ Sonata (composed in May 1885) to Alexandre Guilmant, the indefatigable concertizing virtuoso who had already given the first Paris performance of Rheinberger's 1st Organ Concerto (in F major, op. 137). With opulent harmonies, conspicuously frequent tempo changes, and chords which are a true delight when played on a Cavaille-Coll organ, the rhapsodic Fantasie at the beginning of the 3rd movement certainly lives up to its name. The separate edition is taken from the Rheinberger Complete Edition.

Each organ symphony by Enjott Schneider has its own colour and its own theme. Organ Symphony No. 7 'Von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit' is dominated by the theme of 'time': from the flowing rumbling of time in ancient beginnings ('In principio' - 1st movement) and periodic to the intellectually incomprehensible revolving ('Zeit der Sterne' - 2nd movement). After the third movement ('Zeit des Menschen'), a valse triste, infused by an almost humorous hectic atmosphere, the symphony ends with a kind of 'Amen!' in the fourth movement. Schneider sums it up: 'It is good as it is, we do not understand the course of time anyway.' With regard to style, his composition is based on elements of minimal music which he combines with the tradition of the European organ composition; it is at the same time a testimony to the composer's flexibility and versatility.
