This collection of pieces for saxophone and organ or piano, Spirituals for Saxophone arranged by Friedemann Graef, is designed for use in concert performances as well as for church services and other ceremonies. This traditional American spiritual, Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child, has been extended by composed introductions and endings, or interludes and written solos. The notated solos here are the results of more than ten years of the arranger's personal experience with these tunes and chord changes. The organ part may also be played on acoustic piano if the bass voice is played one octave lower in respective passages---these passages are marked. There is a transposed part for B-flat and E-flat saxophones. Due to the different register of the tenor and alto saxophone, a few notes of the alto saxophone parts have been changed for a more effective sound.

Bela Bartok composed Dance Suite in 1923 for the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Hungary's capital through the unification of Buda, Obuda, and Pest. It soon became one of his most popular orchestral works, and in 1925 he arranged it for piano solo. Adam Tabajdi completed the organ version of Dance Suite in 2019/20, and recorded it on the Kern organ of Sapporo's Kitara Concert Hall later that year. His transcription was inspired by the composer's own version for piano, exploiting the alternative solutions offered by the ''orchestral'' timbres of the organ, with its manuals and pedals. The ideal instrument for the present version is an expansive, eclectic style organ with at least three manuals. This flamboyant arrangement requires great virtuosity, stamina, and creativity from the performer. Adam Tabajdi (b. 1993) is an outstanding young Hungarian organist. Alongside the music of J. S. Bach, his repertoire includes Liszt,and Franck, as well as twentieth-century works, with a special focus on Messiaen, Ligeti, and Florentz. He is a committed performer of contemporary music, but he also feels a close connection with the works of old masters such as Sweelinck, Weckmann, and Couperin. In 2021 he won first prize in the Toulouse International Organ Competition, and in 2022 he was awarded the Junior Prima Award.

Commissioned for the 2017 Montréal Organ Festival, Concordia Salus: A Fantasy for Organ received its name from the motto of the city of Montréal, of which the Latin component translates as salvation through harmony. The work divides roughly into 3 sections. The first section introduces two main contrasting themes. The second section develops the main material through a series of gestures that have an improvisatory feeling--something akin to an extended cadenza. The Partita, composed in 1971, is inscribed “For the Rt Hon. Edward Heath, M.P., Prime Ministerâ€. Its five movements enjoy the almost improvisatory freedom that is characteristic for Howells' writing, yet they are bound together by a kind of cyclic feeling engendered by a fairly consistent use of an original mode: it descends from C to C as follows: C, B, B flat, G, F sharp, E, E flat, C. The Partita exploits both the melodic and harmonic implications of the mode.

One of the first things that comes to one's mind when reading the title of Organ Symphony No. 9 'Pathetique' by Enjott Schneider is another work with this epithet: Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6. And that is no coincidence: The composer regards his organ work as an homage to this 'elder sister'. While Tchaikovsky, in a secret programme, made out his own life to be a struggle and long ordeal to the point of his suspected suicide, Enjott Schneider presents those hours as the ultimate tale of woe in which Jesus had well and truly become human, fatefully bearing the pain and misery of all people. 'Gethsemane', 'Geiselung: Ecce homo', 'Golgatha' and 'Grablegung': Maria Magdalena' are the names of the stages and movements. The Greek word 'pathos' means 'strong emotion, feeling, passion or suffering' - in Schneider's Organ Symphony No. 9, this comes true, musically, in his inner conflict, struggle, wrestling with his fate, cruelty of the crucifixion and deathly silence.

Lar in Roman mythology refers to the so-called Lares, gods of households, fields and pathways, deified souls of the deceased and tutelary deities, especially of the house and its inhabitants. Lar is also the fireplace in a house - and thus a place where you feel protected. Lar II is part of a cycle. Each piece focusses on a kind of movement or transition between the interior (the house) and the unknown (the outside, the adventure). Gilles Deleuze speaks of deterritorialization; it is precisely this process that is also used in music as a metaphor. For Deleuze, a melody can act as a ritornello, for example, representing the house, the acquainted. Lar II plays with ritornellos which are developed alternatingly - like breathing- with certain movements to the outside and back again. Musically, the instrument organ opens/introduces as a topos something within a space and focusses on the concept of space as the central point of a continuous musical transition. (Jose M. Carson Cooman is surely one of the most exciting and versatile contemporary composers in the USA. Born in New York in 1982, he has already written over 1,200 works. Many of these are compositions for organ - the instrument which Cooman, himself a concert organist, feels a particular affinity towards. A selection of these organ works is now available in this publication, including freely-composed preludes, chorale preludes, and festive and quieter pieces, meditative in style. The Celestial Banquet, by Olivier Messiaen is one of his earliest compositions. Written for organ, this piece lasts 7 minutes because of its slow tempo that gives it a timeless feeling. This piece is quite challenging and would require an advanced technical level. Written in Octatonic mode, The Celestial Banquet used a theme that was transposed twice for less monotony. Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was a French organist and composer who was also passionate about ornithology. Inspired by Japanese music, he had a very special way of composing and his work can be identified by its complexity, its diatonic aspect, its harmony with limited transposition, its color and its additive rhythms. He composed many works related to ornithology and birdsong, including the 'Bird Catalogue' in 7 volumes and the 'Treatise on rhythm, color and ornithology' in 7 volumes.
