As well as 20 organ sonatas and seven collections of stand-alone organ pieces with opus numbers, Rheinberger composed a whole range of smaller works for organ methods or organ collections for his favorite instrument, mainly at the request of colleagues and friends.In 1897, at the request of the English publisher Novello, Rheinberger compiled a collection of six pieces for the series “Village Organist†and had these published as “Six Short Piecesâ€. He drew largely on older pieces for this, but also composed three new pieces. The composer, organist, music teacher and pianist Rolande Falcinelli (1920-2006) studied composition with Henri Busser, among others, as well as organ with Gaston Litaize and Marcel Dupre. In 1941 she won the Prix Rossini. Almost 30 years later she worked as a titular organist at the Basilique Sacre-Coeur in Paris. Furthermore, she taught organ, and eventually headed the organ class at the Paris Conservatoire. Among her numerous successful students were Odile Pierre, Daniel Roth, Naji Hakim, Marie-Bernadette Dufourcet, and Pierre Pincemaille.

First Congregational Church is a congregation that particularly enjoys singing the classic hymns, and this organ suite thus consists of preludes on three well-known old American hymns: Foundation (How Firm a Foundation), Bethany (Nearer, My God, To Thee), and Land of Rest (Jerusalem, My Happy Home.) (Although conceived originally for a small one-manual pipe organ with divided stops and pedals, the work can be played effectively on any organ.)
