For more than thirty years, George Emlen was music director of the legendary Christmas Revels, a musical and theatrical presentation that explores Christmas music and perspectives from a different world culture each year. Drawing on his deep knowledge and love of the repertoire, Emlen arranged carols from ten different countries as organ solos. This unique Christmas collection is sure to provide something fresh for your seasonal repertoire. The arrangements stand alone as voluntaries or can be combined into varied groupings as concert suites.

Our series of chorale settings for organ continues with a volume of 35 compositions based on hymns which are used throughout the church year. The main feasts and themes represented in this collection include the celebration of Mass, the Holy Spirit, Trinity, Jesus Christ, Praise and Thanks, as well as trust and consolation. Distinguished composers from various European countries have contributed to the volume. Some works which are less well-known, from the Baroque to the 20th century, are also included. The collection contains several exciting new discoveries which will be useful in the liturgy of the Mass, in other services and in concerts. This third volume in the series follows on from the editions already published devoted to Christmas and Easter.

These Carol-Preludes were written in 2008, but the idea was in the composer's mind for many years before this. Essentially, they revive the old style of the Chorale- Prelude, but using carol tunes instead of hymns or chorales. They are derived from German, French and English melodies - some of the German tunes were found in my mother's old school songbook from her schooldays in Germany after the First World War.

Marc-Antoine Charpentier not only originated the Eurovision Melody, rather he also made an important contribution to French sacred music from the baroque with his oratorios, motets and cantatas. The four cantatas for the season of Christmas (CV 21.019-21.022) are now published in first editions. The Latin texts of these works for Christmas, the New Year, Epiphany, and the Purification are based on the accounts of the Gospels, which are paraphrased in the form of poetic texts. As in Charpentier's extensive Histoires sacrees, the musical structure is oratorical, with a part for the evangelist and texts spoken directly by biblical personages and groups of people (angels, Herodes, shepherds, wise men). In each work the vocal scoring includes two sopranos and a bass (those passages where a number of voices sing together can be performed either by soloists or by a choir). With this uniform scoring it would be meaningful to perform these works as a cycle, in the manner of a small Christmas oratorio. Score available separately - see item CA.2101900.

The origins of Marcel Dupre's Offertoire Il est ne, le divin Enfant lie in a gift from father to daughter. Marguerite (1909-63), a very capable pianist, married in 1948 and moved with her husband to Chevire-le-Rouge, near Angers. The church there had, according to Marguerite, a poor organ and no organist. She agreed to undertake the role, and in anticipation of playing for the Midnight Mass of Christmas in that same year, she asked her father to write a short offertoire in the style of Daquin. Marcel Dupre kindly arranged to have a small organ relocated from their residence in Meudon and the registration instructions in the score match the specification of this instrument. Our edition includes the specification of the Louis Bonn organ as well as minor editorial commentary. We are grateful for permission granted from Marcel Dupre's descendents for permission to make this work available to the general public.

In this delightful musical calendar, John Dixon has provided 12 organ pieces, one for each month of the year. Each piece is based on a tune associated with a liturgical or cultural holiday. A number of the tunes are ones for which organ settings are less-frequently found helping to achieve the goal that every one of these pieces can find a useful place in worship or concert.

This collection comprises ten diverse and easy organ works, each rooted in a hymn commonly sung in worship services around the American holiday of Thanksgiving. These pieces vary in mood, style, and length, making them perfect choices for preludes, offertories, and postludes. And since thereâ??s no reason to confine our thankfulness to one time of year, all are naturally suitable for general settings as well.

A good six years following its first performance in Milan (1773) a second version of Exsultate, jubilate was completed for a performance on Trinity Sunday in 1779. It has survived in a manuscript from Salzburg. This Salzburg version, which was discovered in 1978, differs from the Milan version primarily through the use of flutes instead of oboes and also through the use of two different texts for the first aria. In the first version the text refers to Christmas, whereas in the second version it refers to the festival of Trinity. Mozart's autograph of the Milan version had been thought to be missing since the second world war and it has only been accessible in the Biblioteka Jagiellonska in Krakow for a little over a decade. The present new critical edition by Wolfgang Hochstein is the first which could be based on both versions. Score available separately - see item CA.4076700.

The eight pieces in this collection by James Conely are inspired by seasons throughout the church year, offering pieces specifically for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and Ascension. Most are based on familiar tunes associated with those seasons, and the changing characters take us from the anticipation of Advent to the joy of Easter and Christ’s Ascension.
