Lar in Roman mythology refers to the so-called Lares, gods of households, fields and pathways, deified souls of the deceased and tutelary deities, especially of the house and its inhabitants. Lar is also the fireplace in a house - and thus a place where you feel protected. Lar II is part of a cycle. Each piece focusses on a kind of movement or transition between the interior (the house) and the unknown (the outside, the adventure). Gilles Deleuze speaks of deterritorialization; it is precisely this process that is also used in music as a metaphor. For Deleuze, a melody can act as a ritornello, for example, representing the house, the acquainted. Lar II plays with ritornellos which are developed alternatingly - like breathing- with certain movements to the outside and back again. Musically, the instrument organ opens/introduces as a topos something within a space and focusses on the concept of space as the central point of a continuous musical transition. (Jose M. The second volume continues with 43 compositions for the time of Holy Lent and Easter. For this time of year the new hymnal Gotteslob contains a great number of new songs. Therefore more than 20 pieces are commissioned renditions for this edition - for many songs they are even the first chorale arrangements overall. The collection presents some previously unknown pieces between baroque and present times. The pieces are quite easy to learn and take between two and five minutes playing time and are particularly suitable for the recessional and for the communion.

This volume includes organ works based on chorales surviving in various sources. Some of these works were not previously included in theNew Bach Editioneither for reasons of doubtful authenticity or because they were unknown until now. Two pieces from this repertoire - the two arrangements ofWie schon leuchtet der MorgensternBWV 739 and 764 - stem from one of Bach's autograph manuscripts. They had been omitted until recently because of doubts of authenticity.

In 1726 Johann Sebastian Bach performed a series of cantatas by his Meiningen cousin Johann Ludwig, then continued this series with his own works, but remained faithful to the textual models used his cousin: a Meiningen cycle of texts by an unknown author from the early 18th century. All these texts share the characteristic of including two quotations from the bible: one from the Old Testament at the beginning, and another from the New Testament in the middle. These cantatas include Herr, deine Augen sehen nach dem Glauben BWV 102. The opening chorus in several sections is one of Bach's masterpieces of choral composition. The cantata is also one of those works on which Bach's later reputation was based: performances are documented from 1776 in Hamburg and in Berlin by Zelter's Sing-Akademie from 1813 onwards. In 1830 it was one of the very first cantatas by Bach to appear in print. Score available separately - see item CA.3110200.
