Sun Dance is a slightly modified version of the fifth movement from the composer's Organ Dances. The music is for the most part celebratory in character, its spiky rhythms driven along by the pervasive alternation of 3/8 and 4/4 metrical groupings, although the composer also has fun with 7/8 and 5/8 patterns.

Bela Bartok composed Dance Suite in 1923 for the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Hungary's capital through the unification of Buda, Obuda, and Pest. It soon became one of his most popular orchestral works, and in 1925 he arranged it for piano solo. Adam Tabajdi completed the organ version of Dance Suite in 2019/20, and recorded it on the Kern organ of Sapporo's Kitara Concert Hall later that year. His transcription was inspired by the composer's own version for piano, exploiting the alternative solutions offered by the ''orchestral'' timbres of the organ, with its manuals and pedals. The ideal instrument for the present version is an expansive, eclectic style organ with at least three manuals. This flamboyant arrangement requires great virtuosity, stamina, and creativity from the performer. Adam Tabajdi (b. 1993) is an outstanding young Hungarian organist. Alongside the music of J. S. Bach, his repertoire includes Liszt, and Franck, as well as twentieth-century works, with a special focus on Messiaen, Ligeti, and Florentz. He is a committed performer of contemporary music, but he also feels a close connection with the works of old masters such as Sweelinck, Weckmann, and Couperin. In 2021 he won first prize in the Toulouse International Organ Competition, and in 2022 he was awarded the Junior Prima Award.

Georgi Mushel's Toccata, edited for publication by Noel Rawsthorne, is very much in the spirit and style of a Ukrainian Cossack dance; the feel is improvisatory, with contrasting sections allowing different dancers to express themselves, before typically culminating in a fast and furious finish.

Chen Yi describes her dramatic study in the organ’s sonorities: “From the bronze drum set on topof the totem pole, I imagine that our ancestors played the powerful low percussion instrument,to unify the rhythm in their group dance; from the delicate and magical decorations carved onthe drum and the pole, I imagine that the beauty of the totem poles is presented in multilayerswith various timbres from different manuals (keyboards) and pedals, and the ineffable universe isharmonized in the powerful and brilliant grand chords fully sounded from the organ.†The publicationincludes registrations, fingerings, and pedaling provided by James Higdon. TOTEM POLES wascommissioned by the American Guild of Organists for its 2018 biennial national convention. The primitive power and the spiritual mysteries of the ancient totem poles are permeated into the rich palette, and brought out from the sonic giant, the solo organ. From the bronze drum set on top of the totem pole, I imagine that our ancestors played the powerful low percussion instrument, to unify the rhythm in their group dance; from the delicate and magical decorations carved on the drum and the pole, I imagine that the beauty of the totem poles is presented in multilayers with various timbres from different manuals (keyboards) and pedals, and the ineffable universe is harmonized in the powerful and brilliant grand chords fully sounded from the organ.

The dance is introduced in 6/8 against 2/4 time, before the exposition of a festive theme that alternates bouncing light passages with percussive chords. A more lyrical central episode precedes the recapitulation. The Basque fandango ends always with another dance step: 'Arin Arin' in 2/4, which is here characterized by scales, continuing the piece's joyful and vivacious character.

A well-known teacher and compiler of Stainer & Bell's Opera Gala series, John Norris has created Wedding Gala with an ear to giving church organists a mix of favourites and exciting discoveries to brighten the routine of music for the service of holy matrimony. No album would be complete without the traditional wedding music of Mendelssohn and Wagner, and it can be found here in this collection alongside other classics of the wedding repertoire by Jeremiah Clarke, Bach and Handel. But there's also a thoroughly contemporary leavening, with arrangements of Sydney Carter's One More Step and Lord of the Dance, both firm favourites, plus Musorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Charpentier's Prelude, adding a note of splendour. But the real bonus is for lovers of English music, with Elgar's Chanson de Matin and 'The Call' from the Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, seldom found in comparable collections. And there's also a rare new discovery: the ravishing Chosen Tune by Herbert Howells, transcribed from his Three Pieces for violin and piano, Op. 28, and available as an organ piece for the first time. Each piece is comprehensively registered by the arranger, and the collection as a whole will be welcomed by all organists of intermediate standard as a source of new material not only for liturgical use but also for recitals.

Symphony for Organ (2013) is cast as a dramatic progression from darkness into light. The first movement, Masque, is extremely violent and bleak. The title is used with a touch of irony--for this is not a masque of courtly diversion, but rather a furious struggle against the darkness, played out in a series of dramatic episodes following a Tudor-era formal design. The ending builds to a dramatic peak, and leaves us in shell-shocked silence. The second movement, Sarabande, begins quietly and mournfully, and gradually gains in fervency. A faster middle section is a spinning dance before the return of the opening music. In the coda, the light gradually approaches. The third movement, Chorale, evokes the colors of a new dawn. The music of the first movement's struggle gradually becomes washed in the blaze of morning. Instrumentation: Organ Duration: 21' Composed: 2013 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Two Contrasts (2018) is dedicated to Timothy Miller. The two movements (which may be performed together or separately) form contrasts to each other in a number of musical ways. However, in addition to the differences, there are also connections of motivic material that link the two movements together. Sharagan refers to a style of monodic hymn in the Armenian Orthodox Church. Madrigal alternates between declamatory, expressive music and buoyant, dance-like music.
