This work's four movements were inspired by the four Ariel poems of T.S. Eliot. The poems are entitled Journey of the Magi, A Song for Simeon, Animula, and Marina. Colorful organ registrations, late twentieth-century musical language and references to other organ works and chant melodies are employed in this musical representation of Eliot's poetry. The poems mark, in part, Eliot's conversion experience to orthodox Christianity. The spiritual theme of T.S. Eliot Impressions is that of a journey from darkness to light and from despair to hope. A tour-de-force concert calibre work of some twenty minutes in length. Detailed notes by the composer are included in the publication and are critical to the understanding and appreciation of this extended work.
The Trois Impressions shows Karg-Elert both at his most Romantic and his most impressionistic. The movements' nocturnal names - Harmonies du Soir, Claire de Lune and La Nuit - are in French as the work is dedicated to Alexandre Guilmant, the great French Organist of Trinity church in Paris

First performed in Faversham Church, Kent, on 28th June 2015 by Edward Kemp-Luck. Duration: 6 mins ca. A review in the June 2016 edition of Organist's Review calls this piece a beautifully produced work that features the pleasing disorientation of false relations and is as inventive as it is impressive. A similarly glowing review in the August-October edtion of The Organ magazine calls this piece a very impressive short work indeed; brilliantly imagines and written for the instrument...one can only urge thismusic on all recital organists - it is a splendid piece, and would surely make a counterpart to an original McCabe organ work in the same programme - the Johannes-Partita , especially.

The composition “Silberklänge†was commissioned for the 2020 International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig. The composer noted: “During my first visit to the Georgenkirche in Rötha, I was impressed by the immensely vibrant and noble sounds of the historic Silbermann organ (1721), the endless variety of possible timbre combinations, the stellar acoustics of the church, and the historic atmosphere, which shaped and tamed my musical thoughts, transporting me into my very own ‘baroque’ world.â€This edition contains registration marks that reflect the soundscape the composer intended to achieve with this particular organ. Performing the work on an organ with different registration possibilities will open up a new spectrum of possible timbres.

Organist Richard Hills introduces this reissue of a neglected Edwardian classic with a timely note on performance-style, the composer and his works. Varied in colour and mood, and written with an idiomatic command of the instrument, these Three Impromptus reinforce the impression of Coleridge-Taylor not only as a versatile presence on the Edwardian scene, but also as a composer whose music is an enduring part of our British musical heritage.

This volume presents 64 Pastorale compositions for organ (harpsichord/pianoforte) of the 18th century from Germany, Bohemia, Austria and South Tyrol. Charming melodies shaped by natural notes, bordoun basses, a lyrical-cheerful or sensitive tone - these are some of the common characteristics of the works in this collection. Several of them are connected to the custom of the Kindlwiegen or cradle song. Those in search of new discoveries will also find a number of first editions here. Almost all of the pieces can be played manualiter and range from easy to moderate level of difficulty. Together, both Pastorale volumes display an impressive kaleidoscope of the different national characteristics of the pastorale and offer a rich repertoire for organists, not only at Christmas time.

Karl Straube wrote to Rheinberger about his penultimate Organ Sonata, published in 1899: Your 19th Sonata made a tremendous impression on my audience. The first ballade-like movement in particular was greatly admired by the public. In the middle movement, marked Provencalisch, Rheinberger used a theme by Machaut, whilst the third movement, with its somber improvisatory-like introduction, is very convincing.

The rushing of the Holy Spirit to which the hymn 'Veni creator' refers is symbolized by fast semiquaver runs of the organ which return again and again during the whole piece. Alternately, the text is interpreted musically in seven verses according to the respective content. Traditional melodies appear in a contemporary harmonic makeup. From this context emerges a field of tension between old and new which eventually dissolves in the 'Amen' of the vocal soloist. The work on the rather demanding piece is rewarding for every performer and the performance at the church is very impressive.

Ovid Young's distinguished career as a pianist, organist, and teacher was complemented by his activities as a composer and arranger. Available once again, the Ovid Young Organ Book is a terrific collection of original pieces from 1984 that represent some of Young's finest writing. The pieces arose from his experience as a church musician and, in particular, the desire for shorter pieces that still make a powerful impression. None of the pieces are longer than three minutes in length, though the composer also provides two suggested suites for occasions when a longer work is needed.

St. Nicolas Church in Leipzig: the 9th of October 1989 saw the last great peace prayer with the Beatitudes, followed by the momentous non-violent peace demonstration. The famous film composer Enjott Schneider created a touching monument to the events of Leipzig by setting the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount to music. In his motet for mixed choir, string trio, bassoon and organ, he captures the extraordinary mood of that day musically in three movements (I In Not - In time of need, II Barmherzigkeit - Mercy, III Hoffnung - Hope). The demanding, yet impressive choral work is perfect for church services.
