Fantasy-Variations on Two Themes (2017) for organ was written for Heinrich Christensen in celebration of his significant 2017 birthday. The musical material for the work comprises two different themes. The first is a short melody by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931). (It was a sketch originally intended for inclusion in, but ultimately left out of, Nielsen's late organ work 29 Little Preludes.) This theme represents Heinrich's native Denmark. The second theme is the American folk-gospel hymn Angel Band. This theme represents Heinrich's adopted American homeland. It serves also as a remembrance of our dear mutual friend Harry Lyn Huff (1952-2016), for whom the tune was a particular favorite. Both these themes are developed freely in a set of alternating fantasy-variations. The opening variation begins with a dramatic pedal solo before quoting both themes. The second variation is a lyric setting based on the Nielsen melody. The third is a jubilant hornpipe on Angel Band. The fourth is an aria on a transformation of the Nielsen melody. The fifth is a gigue-toccata on Angel Band. The sixth is an atmospheric contemplation: lush chords in the manuals move slowly and hint at Angel Band while the Nielsen melody is heard for the first time in its complete original form on a high pedal stop. The seventh and final variation begins with a brief evocation of the harmonies of the late Daniel Pinkham (a mentor to both Heinrich and me) before going on to return dramatically and jubilantly to the opening music, bringing together both themes again in a bold conclusion. Organist Richard Hills introduces this reissue of a neglected Edwardian classic with a timely note on performance-style, the composer and his works. Varied in colour and mood, and written with an idiomatic command of the instrument, these Three Impromptus reinforce the impression of Coleridge-Taylor not only as a versatile presence on the Edwardian scene, but also as a composer whose music is an enduring part of our British musical heritage.
Scherzo For Organ was first published in 1917. It is dedicated to John Connell, a South African organist and Organ builder, with whom the composer became great friends when he travelled to Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Alfred Hollins (1865-1942) was an inspirational British organist, composer and teacher. Blind from birth, he travelled all over the UK and the British Empire, giving concerts and designing Organs. He eventually settled in Scotland, where he was an organist in Edinburgh for over forty years

There exists already and abundant supply of original compositions and arrangements suitable for performance on large and comprehensive organs, but many organists who have only a small instrument at their disposal in country churches often have some difficulty in finding short and easy voluntaries suitable for their own use and the instruction of their pupils. It is hoped that The Village Organist may supply this want, so much felt by that valuable and zealous class of church-workers to whom the work is inscribed. The editors have endeavoured to bring together a collection of pieces which they trust will prove to be at once simple, without being uninteresting, and effective where the instrumental resources are limited.

Cityscape dates from 1992 and was composed for inclusion in an organ recital of Chicago composers as part of the Fourth Presbyterian Church's annual Festival of the Arts. The theme of that year's festival was Faces of the City. This three movement work, which depicts facets of the city, is based on a three-note descending scale (C-B-A), the opening notes of the popular song, Chicago, Chicago, that Toddlin' Town. Coincidentally, this same melodic sequence marks the beginning of OLD HUNDREDTH, and a citation of that melody occurs in the third movement. The Fourth Presbyterian Church is located on the part of North Michigan Avenue which is known as The Magnificent Mile. Each of its Sunday morning services begins with the singing of OLD HUNDREDTH, sung to the text of the Doxology. The first performance of Cityscape was played by David Schrader, to whom it is dedicated.

Carl Fasch was notoriously reluctant to have his music made public and even asked that much of it should be destroyed. What remains, however, supports the view of the contemporary writer on music Johann Reichardt that Fasch was the true successor to C. P. E. Bach, with whom he shared keyboard duties for Frederick the Great. In this first volume of his complete keyboard works, the six sonatas, which appeared in print and were well regarded during the composer's lifetime, show him to be a minor master and an eloquent advocate for the eclectic expressive style then current in Berlin.
