Lani Smith was one of the most beloved composers in Lorenz’s history, and his music continues to be favorite of church organists throughout the country. Trilogy on B-A-C-H (2017) uses as its musical material a familiar four-note theme: the letters B-A-C-H (the last name of Johann Sebastian Bach) treated as a musical motive: B-flat, A, C, B-natural (H in German note naming). Starting with Bach himself, this theme has been used by a truly enormous number of composers over the centuries. Most B-A-C-H themed works (at least those for organ), tend to be extremely contrapuntal, likely taking their cue from much of Bach's own organ music. This piece explicitly goes in the other direction and use the theme primarily motivically/melodically and as a generating force for the kind of mixed modality that is typical of Cooman's music. The first movement is an energetic march. The second movement is a lyric meditation containing both an arioso and a short quasi-passacaglia, in which the B-A-C-H motive repeats slowly in the pedals. Variazioni sawiane (2021) was written for organist Jan Bart?omiej Bokszczanin. The title refers to the Polish composer Marian Sawa (1937-2005), and the variations are based on a theme from his music. The theme is a metricized version of the original psalm chant from his final composition, Missa Claromontona (2005) for chorus, organ, and timpani. An introduction based on the theme's opening motive leads to a gentle aria that presents the melodic theme twice in its entirety. Mand lion Was Commissioned For The 1982 Dublin International Organ Festival By Rhm Foods. It Was First Performed On The 27Th June 1982 By Pete Sweeney, At St. Patrick'S Cathedral In Dublin. The Piece Takes Its Name From The Greek Word For 'Handkerchief', A Word That Is Also Used In Iconography To Refer To An Ikon 'Not Made By Hands', Which Is Equivalent To The Idea Of The Shroud. Mand lion Is A Meditation Upon Ikons, And Upon The Changing Image Of The Face Of Christ. Tavener Recommends That This Piece Should Be Played Freely And With Great 'Sweep'.

Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) is known for his unique composition style. Incorporating complex rhythms, harmony and melodies, The Ascension for Organ is no exception to the composer's popular, distinctive style. The Ascension was originally composed for orchestra by Messiaen in 1932-1933. The composer described the work as Four Symphonic Meditations and the sections are; 1) Majesty of Christ praying that His Father should glorify Him, 2) Serene Alleluias from a soul longing for Heaven, 3) Alleluia on the Trumpet, Alleluia on the Cymbal, and 4) Prayer from Christ ascending towards His Father. Messiaen arranged The Ascension for solo organ a year later. The first, second and fourth movements are arrangements of the orchestral version, however, the composer created a new third movement; Outburst of joy from a soul before the Glory of Christ, which is its own glory. The Ascension is essential to all advanced organists seeking to expand and vary their repertoire.
