Organ SKU: CA.1822000 17 new compositions for organ solo. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Collection. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1822000). ISBN 9790007294441. Edited by the Deutscher Musikrat (German Music Council) with Richard Mailander and Kord Michaelis
Catholic and Protestant churches are familiar with the tradition that in times of crisis, new works are composed to comfort the faithful, and are performed in worship. Following in this tradition, the project Orgelmusik in Zeiten von Corona (Organ Music in Times of Corona) was devised. 17 new compositions were commissioned which reflect Corona times, creatively confront the past and the present, and will enrich the repertoire of organ music in a lasting way. The 17 compositions depict a wide range of styles including avant-garde, jazz and classical, and some refer to music from previous eras and church music traditions. They are conceived for different levels of difficulty, are for 2 or 3-manual organs, and last between four and ten minutes. They are particularly suitable for concerts, but can also be played in church services. * 17 thematic reflections on the Corona pandemic: on the horsemen of the apocalypse, the Coeur bleu, the thunder of time, timelines, trust and confidence, and many more * compositions by Timo Bocking, Kathrin A. Denner, Barbara Dennerlein, Dorothee Hahne, Peter Michael Hamel, Frank Heckel, Dorothea Hofmann, Nicole Johanntgen, Anna Korsun, Roland Kunz, Eckhart Kuper, Johannes M. Michel, Iris Rieg, Maximilian Schnaus, Enjott Schneider, Dominik Susteck, and Maximilian Wallrath * stylistic variety and breadth - from classically-influenced compositions, through jazz and pop, to avant-garde and experimental sounds * different levels of difficulty, for 2 or 3-manual organ, 4 to 10 minutes' duration * suitable for concerts and church services. $81.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Organ SKU: BR.EB-9305 Urtext - Critical Source Edition of the Free Organ Works. Composed by Dietrich Buxtehude. Edited by Harald Vogel. Solo instruments; Softbound. Edition Breitkopf. Renaissance/early Baroque; Baroque. Score. 84 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9305. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9305). ISBN 9790004187692. 12 x 9 inches. This edition is the result of Harald Vogel's many years of practice as an organist and musicologist. The music text is based on a reevaluation of 17th- and 18th-century manuscripts containing the free organ and keyboard works by Buxtehude. They originated during a transitional phase between the traditional letter tablature and the staff notation still in use today. Since many works have survived only in transcriptions for staff notation, the editor was confronted with a high error rate, which he carefully analyzes in the Einzelanmerkungen. During the preparation of the edition, the editor always kept sight of the performance practice, but still, the image of the sources is never distorted (e. g. by superfluous rests, beaming not conforming to the sources and the unhistorical adjustment of time signatures) and stays very close to the compositional notation, the letter tablature. The flexible use of three staves and the differentiated distribution of the voices on the staves allow for an approximation in reading conventions of historical notation with its resulting information about hand division. Grouping the free organ repertoire into works with obbligato pedal and works for manuals, this edition is organized in two volumes. The first subvolume (I/1, EB 9304) contains the Preface and the Preludes, whereas the second subvolume (I/2, EB 9305) contains Toccatas, Ostinato works, alternative versions and a comprehensive Critical Commentary (in German only). Volume II (EB 9306) contains Buxtehude's free organ and keyboard works (manualiter) with the corresponding texts (Preface and Critical Commentary).Until 1971, Harald Vogel worked on a dissertation (with Georg von Dadelsen, Hamburg) on Die Fuge um Bach. Besides the description of the inclusion of triple measures into the C notation and the irregularities of the voice mutation in the polyphonic structures, this also included a discussion about the justification of the inner textual criticism. With the inner textual criticism, deviations in parallel passages are unified. The North German fugue style, reaching a peak in Buxtehude's work, is characterized by a constant diversity of details in subject and polyphonic progressions. One of the indicators of the fantastic style is the dissolution of the polyphonic structures at the ends of the fugues, evident in Buxtehude's work.In this edition, a musical text is presented that avoids the uniformity of detail not conforming to the sources. However, there are many examples of transcription and cursory errors, which are analyzed in a methodical systematic manner. About the editor: As an organist, professor, organ expert, and scholar, Harald Vogel has rendered outstanding services to the interpretation of early music and especially to historical performance practice concerning the organ for decades. He has received numerous awards, including an ECHO Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year (2012), honorary doctorates from Lulea University of Technology (Sweden, 2008) and Oberlin College (USA, 2014), as well as the Buxtehude Prize of the City of Lubeck (2018). Harald Vogel is the author and editor of numerous scholarly publications and editions. Through his lifelong performance practice, he can look back on an extensive discography, including the complete recording of Buxtehude's organ works, which he recorded in various locations with historical organ instruments of the North German organ building tradition in Scandinavia, North Germany and the Netherlands.

SATB choir, 2 trombones [2 violas], organ SKU: CA.2770500 Composed by Leopold Hofmann. Edited by Guido Erdmann. This edition: paperback. Music from Vienna. Sacred vocal music, Mourning, death. Full score. Composed nach 1790. 12 pages. Duration 4 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.705/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2770500). ISBN 9790007166588. Language: Latin. Man that is born of woman hath but a short time to live is one of the central biblical texts dealing with the transitoriness of human existence. Leopold Hofmann, Kapellmeister at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna from 1772 to 1793, where W. A. Mozart was his church music assistant, also set this strongly expressive text. Hofmann's setting, in C minor, offers an austere harmony, characterized by suspensions in a homophonic, through-composed four-part vocal setting (soloists or SATB choir), reinforced only by two trombones and organ continuo. Four concise instrumental transitional passages between the individual verses relieve the pathos laden Viennese church style of this composition. With its tragic air, in some passages it closely resembles Mozart's Requiem K. 626. For this first edition, the two trombone parts are available both in the original clef and in alto clef. The figured bass has been realized so that the piece can also be performed without trombones, with only organ accompaniment. For a performance this piece could easily be combined with the Salve Regina by Pietro Cassati (Carus 27.703) from the Vienna series. $18.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Edited by Barbara Grossmann. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Urtext Editions; French Sacred Music. German title: Requiem (Gounods Letztes Werk). Sacred vocal music, Requiem, End of the church year, Mourning, death. Full score. CG op. Posth. 136 pages. Duration 35 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.315/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2731500). ISBN 9790007095604. Key: C major. Language: Latin. Charles Gounod composed this Requiem under the impact of the death of his four-year-old grandson, Maurice. According to information handed down, while finishing the details of this work he was overtaken by death. It was published posthumously in various constellations by his pupil, Henri Busser, but the only complete version from the pen of Gounod is the version for large orchestra, which is published here for the first time in a critical edition. Gounod's Requiem, unlike many contemporary settings of the Mass of the Dead, is not characterized by darkness and terror. Rather, with all of its trepidation - expressed through a marked chromaticism - an atmosphere of hopeful expectation, of trust in the grace and equity of the divine judge predominates. This confidence finds its expression in the choice of the fundamental key of C major, which is rather unusual for a requiem. The work was given an impressive performance on the occasion of the first anniversary of Gounod's death in the Parisian church of Sainte-Madeleine under the direction of Gabriel Fauré and it was highly acclaimed by the contemporary press. $91.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

The Requiem of Gabriel Faure is now available in two versions: in the symphonic version which was completed in 1900 and in a version with small orchestra of 1889. The symphonic version of Gabriel Faure's Requiem, published in 1901, was the product of a 13-year compositional process. Starting from the original five-movement form for strings, harp and organ, the composer wrote two additional movements, one after the other, and expanded the instrumentation in various stages for later performances. The present reconstruction of a version with small orchestra differs from other such attempts in that for the first time it presents the work not in a mixed version, but rather in the unified form from 1889. This is distinguished from the final version both in musical terms, as well as through the fact that it forgoes the use of flutes, clarinets and bassoons, while employing only two horns instead of four. With a critical Report with information about the source situation and the edition, and containing the individual readings (alternative readings, etc.). Since in 1889 the Offertoire was still without the choral section the present edition contains the Offertoire of the final version as appendix. Edited by Marc Rigaudiere. French Sacred Music. Requiem. Fassung 1889 Fur Kleines Orchest. Sacred vocal music, Requiem. Single Part, Viola 1. Composed 1901. 16 pages. Duration 35 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.311/12. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2731112). ISBN 9790007201548. Language: Latin. SATB choir, 2 trombones [2 violas], organ SKU: CA.2770549 Composed by Leopold Hofmann. Edited by Guido Erdmann. Music from Vienna. Organ. Sacred vocal music, Mourning, death. Single Part, Organ. Composed nach 1790. 4 pages. Duration 4 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.705/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2770549). ISBN 9790007202668. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2770500. $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, congregation, 2 violins, viola, cello, contrabass, organ SKU: CA.5040512 Chorale cantata. Composed by Max Reger. Edited by Gunther Massenkeil. German title: O wie selig seid ihr doch. Sacred vocal music, Mourning, death. Single Part, Violin 2. Composed 1903. Op. WoO V/4 Nr. 2. 2 pages. Duration 15 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 50.405/12. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5040512). ISBN 9790007081720. Key: D minor. Language: German/English. The choral cantatas are Reger's most personal and most substantial contribution to one of the principal categories of Protestant church music, and they are only major works in this field by one of the foremost composers of his time. This is true despite the fact that Reger himself does not appear to have considered the cantatas to figure among his principal compositions, as he gave them no opus numbers. In contrast to the three other chorale cantatas of Reger which exist in a definitive form, there is no record of the place or date of the first performance of O wie selig, or indeed of any performance of it during the composer's lifetime. Sacred vocal music, Requiem, End of the church year, Mourning, death. Single Part, Organ. CG op. Posth. 4 pages. Duration 35 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.315/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2731549). ISBN 9790007201746. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2709212). ISBN 9790007248741. Key: D minor. Latin. Anton Bruckner composed his first mass, the Mass in D minor, in 1864 in just four months. It was not ready in time for the Kaiser Franz Joseph I's birthday, as planned, but was first performed on 20 November at the Feast of St Cecilia in Linz Cathedral - with great success. The mass is one of the first works by Bruckner to be written in his characteristic symphonic style. It was revised several times and first published in 1892. This edition is based on a critical evaluation of all the relevant sources, and offers an improved musical text.
