The second volume continues with 43 compositions for the time of Holy Lent and Easter. For this time of year the new hymnal Gotteslob contains a great number of new songs. Therefore more than 20 pieces are commissioned renditions for this edition - for many songs they are even the first chorale arrangements overall. The collection presents some previously unknown pieces between baroque and present times. The pieces are quite easy to learn and take between two and five minutes playing time and are particularly suitable for the recessional and for the communion.

With the 2nd Organ Sonata in A flat major of 1871, we encounter a masterpiece which is already fully formed. The first movement, only loosely related to sonata form in the sense of the title Fantasie-Sonate, the atmospheric Adagio espressivo, and the grand finale movement with its fugue and references back to the first movement ensure great success for the grand romantic organ sonata, in spite of its technical demands.

Karen Beaumont brings us this highly flexible collection in response to the growing demand for shorter worship service voluntaries. Each of the seven postludes are less than a minute and a half in length and contain interludes that can serve as shorter works or transitions between multiple postludes. The pieces are thoughtfully arranged to flow seamlessly from one to the next. While each composition can be played with a single manual, suggestions for incorporating pedal or multiple manuals are also provided. Additionally, these pieces are adaptable for use on a piano or other keyboard instrument.

Edited by the Deutscher Musikrat (German Music Council) with Richard Mailander and Kord MichaelisCatholic and Protestant churches are familiar with the tradition that in times of crisis, new works are composed to comfort the faithful, and are performed in worship. Following in this tradition, the project Orgelmusik in Zeiten von Corona (Organ Music in Times of Corona) was devised. 17 new compositions were commissioned which reflect Corona times, creatively confront the past and the present, and will enrich the repertoire of organ music in a lasting way.The 17 compositions depict a wide range of styles including avant-garde, jazz and classical, and some refer to music from previous eras and church music traditions. They are conceived for different levels of difficulty, are for 2 or 3-manual organs, and last between four and ten minutes. They are particularly suitable for concerts, but can also be played in church services.* 17 thematic reflections on the Corona pandemic: on the horsemen of the apocalypse, the Coeur bleu, the thunder of time, timelines, trust and confidence, and many more* compositions by Timo Bocking, Kathrin A. Following its edition of the beautiful Messe Sainte Cecile by Gounod in an arrangement for Coro SA and organ (CV 27.025), Carus presents a further sacred work by this composer: his Te Deum for soli, choir, two harps and two organs (choir organ and great organ). As Peter Kaiser, the editor, has expressed in his foreword, this work from 1886 realizes a strict, almost ascetic musical language, an inward awe and praise of God.. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.2332600.

Widor's early organ symphonies op. 13 have a quite special character because of their suite-like structure. The six-movement Symphony II also combines different types of movement in an unusual way; for example, it includes a Praeludium Circulare, which explores all the twelve keys, a Salve Regina based on the Gregorian antiphon of the same name, and a grand Toccata as the Finale, an interesting precursor of the famous Toccata from the 5th Symphony. The Carus edition is based on the Paris edition of 1928/29, the last one to be published during Widor's lifetime. The corrections which the composer made after the publication of the 1928-29 edition have also been taken into consideration. As well as this, earlier editions have been consulted for comparison to clarify individual variant readings. Editorial suggestions on the performance of individual passages complete the new edition. Great organ works: Series A: - Symphony II op. 13 no. 2 - Symphony IV op. 13 no. 4 - Symphony V op. 42 no. 1 - Symphony VI op. 42 no. 2 - Symphony Romane op. 73 in preparation Subscription offer for Series A:20% discount off the retail price.

It is no coincidence that the Toccata from Widor's Vth Organ Symphony is his best-known composition. Who can resist its thrilling verve? Not only this, but also the other movements of this unique work of the organ repertoire win you over immediately - the first with its march-like, majestic, much-varied theme; the second with its wonderfully elegiac oboe melody, flowing along over staccato sixteenth notes; and the two slow movements, of which the melancholy, almost static Adagio forms the greatest contrast imaginable to the following triumphal Toccata. The Carus Urtext edition is based on the Paris edition of 1928/29, the last one to be published during Widor's lifetime. The corrections which the composer made after the publication of this edition have also been taken into consideration. The Concerto for organ, strings and percussion by Kay Johannsen, Kantor of the Stiftskirche in Stuttgart, is a valuable addition to the repertoire for organ and orchestra. It is a work composed to appeal to both performer and audience alike - with thrilling rhythmic sections as well as moments of great intimacy. The organ part, for a three manual instrument if possible, is shown to its best advantage in many and varied tonal colors, ranging from the most delicate solo registrations to powerful forte. The organ writing is demanding, but well within the capabilities of experienced organists. Precise registration suggestions are contained in the score. The string orchestra (minimum 4/4/3/3/1) is scored with sophistication, with solos for all instruments. The percussion is for two players - a part for timpani and one for other, readily available percussion instruments. By avoiding the use of wind and brass instruments, the work can also be performed where the tuning of the organ is not ideally suited to modern orchestral pitch. Score and part available separately - see item CA.1808500.

The field of sacred chamber music, apart from vocal music and the solo-organ repertoire, often lives in the shadows. Thus the reprint of this valuable trio is all the more welcome. The organ has the same role here as the piano in a piano trio! (Wurttembergische Blatter fur Kirchenmusik May 1993, p. 192). Score and part available separately - see item CA.5014900.
