A well-known teacher and compiler of Stainer & Bell's Opera Gala series, John Norris has created Wedding Gala with an ear to giving church organists a mix of favourites and exciting discoveries to brighten the routine of music for the service of holy matrimony. No album would be complete without the traditional wedding music of Mendelssohn and Wagner, and it can be found here in this collection alongside other classics of the wedding repertoire by Jeremiah Clarke, Bach and Handel. But there's also a thoroughly contemporary leavening, with arrangements of Sydney Carter's One More Step and Lord of the Dance, both firm favourites, plus Musorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Charpentier's Prelude, adding a note of splendour. But the real bonus is for lovers of English music, with Elgar's Chanson de Matin and 'The Call' from the Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, seldom found in comparable collections. And there's also a rare new discovery: the ravishing Chosen Tune by Herbert Howells, transcribed from his Three Pieces for violin and piano, Op. 28, and available as an organ piece for the first time. Each piece is comprehensively registered by the arranger, and the collection as a whole will be welcomed by all organists of intermediate standard as a source of new material not only for liturgical use but also for recitals.

I. Floral Prelude on Leucanthemum Vulgare; II. Floral Prelude on Zehenspitzen durch die Tulpen; III. Floral Prelude on La Rose Jaune 14 page book Published by: Dunstan House Composer's Note: Organ preludes are frequently heard in religious services as well as organ recitals, but are commonly based on the tunes of hymns or chorales. Adapting the prelude form to tunes of a more secular nature introduces some slightly irreverent humor into the mix. These are called floral preludes rather than choral preludes because each of the tunes includes the name of a flower either in its title or its lyric (Daisy, Daisy give me your answer, do; Tiptoe Through the Tulips, and The Yellow Rose of Texas).

The northern New Mexico landscape is replete with many churches and chapels which have served for centuries as a cornerstone of faith for the indigenous and colonial peoples. Each region and place of worship has its own colorful history, often the stuff of legend. Three Chapels (for organ manuals) takes its inspiration from the lore and history surrounding some of these holy sites. Chimayó is a place of pilgrimage and healing for the sick; Acoma a place of tension and fusion between two distinct cultural theologies; and Rosario a place of great ceremony for one week of the year Published by: Zimbel Press.

Antiphon on Magnificat for Maundy Thursday, Antiphon on Magnificat for Good Friday, Antiphon on Magnificat for Holy SaturdayThis major work for organ is dedicated to the memory of the beloved church musician Sam Batt Owens, and certainly reflects his warmth of personality. The chants are developed in a subtle manner throughout the three parts and the phrases are elegant. A good legato technique will be required in the hands, while the pedal parts are only moderately difficult. Stearns gives plenty of opportunity for varied colors in these movements, and the harmonies are derived from the chant in a most satisfying way. This Triptych would also be appropriate for concert use.
