for organ and chamber orchestra-The chamber music works are among Hindemith's most successful instrumental works of the 1920s. But the title is misleading: The individual pieces actually have concertante soloistic features instead of submitting to chamber music traditions.Chamber Music No. 7 is centred on the organ. Written for the broadcaster Frankfurter Sender the work took then virulent music recording and broadcasting problems on the radio into account in its instrumentation for chamber music and the elaboration of the musical setting. The scores are based on Vol. IV/3 (PHA 403) of the Hindemith Complete Edition edited by Giselher Schubert.

This volume contains all 71 of the German composer's works for organ including 25 toccatas 8 fantasias 6 canzonas 18 capriccios and 14 ricercares. The music recalls Froberger's teacher the Italian composer Girolamo Frescobaldi offering grand visions of the late Baroque. Alba is one of Bennett’s serialism-tinged works that also touches on medieval rhythmic modes. He based the work on the Tema Seriale from Cantata Academica by Benjamin Britten to whom Alba is dedicated. It is a demanding and rewarding piece for performer and listener.Composer performer and arranger Richard Rodney Bennett was internationally respected for his serious music and many award-winning film scores (Murder on the Orient Express Nicholas and Alexandra) as well as his works for children and his religious pieces. In addition this markedly versatile musician frequently performed as a jazz pianist. On his move to the United States the two sponsors for his green card(work permit) were Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.
