Kids love drums! The sight, sound, power, and feel are tremendous motivators for many students. D.R.U.M. is an acronym for Discipline, Respect and Unity Through Music. The original D.R.U.M. group was formed at author Jim Solomon's elementary school in 1995 to provide an ensemble experience for students not involved in any of the regular music groups. The group concept is designed to stress teamwork and self-discipline while learning these intensive percussion ensembles built on music from the United States, Brazil, Africa, and China. Useful for general music classes and special groups, this book is a terrific learning tool with unlimited potential!

A. My composition for snare drum forms a counter piece to my series of rhythmic pieces (Darabukka for piano or Morgenlied for large orchestra). The dramatic moment - tuned instruments are treated like rhythm instruments - disappear entirely. The inner contrast is replaced by the tension between the different uses of the drum and a relatively large number of invariable performance elements. Although the snare drum was only developed at the beginning of the 19th century, it has its roots in an old and diverse drum culture. The technical aspects of this composition are based on various aspects of this rich culture, both the social customs as well as the variety of different performing techniques and expressions. However, the piece does not merely quote - that would be unhistorical - on the contrary: The modern and progressive, in so far as I can observe this in our social environment, is quite evident, for as the title of the piece tells us the same is not the same. Drumroad 2 is for all percussion players who have successfully made their way through the first book. With more grooves, fill-ins, exercises and solo pieces, Kleinehanding provides a logical sequel to his multi-faceted concept which, once again, is subdivided into a main book and a fill-in book. The main book also contains six drummer portraits, in which leading percussionists are introduced at length with groove examples: Stewart Copeland (The Police), Sheila E. (Prince), Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo Starks (James Brown), Manu Katche (Sting a.o.), Steve Gadd and Jojo Mayer. Such tips help open the big wide drum set world to the students of Drumroad 2. (Cornelia Monske, neue musikzeitung)Setting out into the big wide drum set world.
