The purpose of this book is to give beginning musicians the opportunity to play together. Elementary piano players have few opportunities of being part of an ensemble which is both inspirational and fun. It will help develop aural awareness and other ensemble playing skills which can, all too often, be found lacking in performers who most frequently play and practise solo. These trios are playable by any player with 2-3 years? experience.Titles: Foreign Lands * Playing Tag * Milonga * Village Dance *Djibouti Spring.

Colin Matthews' Nocturne for Piano Trio.
As well as many large-scale orchestral works and much chamber music, Colin Matthews has written a number of works for children to play, most notably Machines And Dreams, a'toy symphony' for young players and the London Symphony Orchestra (1990). The March, Waltz and Nocturne were composed specifically for the Schubert Ensemble’s Chamber Music 2000 project in 1999. - Colin Matthews

The piano trio version of LA MUSE ET LE POÈTE, Op. 132 was written by Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) in 1910 during a vacation to North Africa, and that version premiered at Queen's Hall on June 7, 1910, with Eugene Ysaÿe on violin, Jospeh Hollmann on cello, and the composer at the piano. Saint-Saëns transcribed the version for violin, cello and orchestra that same year, and the same two string players premiered that version on October 20 at the Sarah Bernhardt Theater in Paris under Fernand Le Borne. Despite the title (which was later added by the publisher to make it more marketable), no program is intended for the work and neither instrument represents either the muse or the poet. Saint-Saëns himself referred to the piece as a conversation between the two instruments instead of a debate between two virtuosos.
