Arnold Schonberg is the central figure in the musical world of this century. His musical significance was already apparent during his life-time, but his posthumous influence has increased immensely. His work paved the way for ground-breaking changes in musical perception. This complete edition aspires to be equally indispensable for research as well as for performance. The edition is published in two series: series A in folio format contains all completed works, all piano scores prepared by the composer himself and all unfinished works suitable for performance; also fragments (large scores) which are better suited to be printed in such a format. Series B, in quarto format, contains early versions, sketches, ideas and fragments as well as genesis and a Critical Commentary.

The six piano works 'Sonata No. 2' Op. 22, 'Nachtstucke' Op. 23, 'Faschingsschwank aus Wien' Op. 26, 'Drei Romanzen' Op. 28, 'Scherzo, Gigue, Romanze and Fughette' Op. 32 as well as '43 Clavierstucke fur die Jugend' Op. 68 (the so-called 'Album for the Youth') were created between 1830 and 1848. They document the transition in Schumann's compositional work from the early time focussed completely on piano compositions to the following period which was dominated by other genres such as lied, chamber music or orchestral works and in which works for piano solo rather played a minor role.

The Richard Wagner Complete Edition presents the composer's entire output for the first time in a reliable form. The conductor Michael Balling, in the early years of the 20th century, attempted to make Wagner's work more accessible for research and performance, but the edition only reached 10 volumes - some with grave shortcomings - and was discontinued after Balling's death in 1925. A further attempt at a complete edition by Otto Strobel was abandoned at the preliminary stages. This third attempt at a complete edition will be the first scholarly, critical edition, based on an evaluation of all the accessible source materials and the latest findings of serious Wagner research. As the edition is also intended for practical performance, the musical text has been kept free of philological insertions; these are listed in the appendices of each volume in the Critical Commentary. Numerous, partly unpublished works - some relatively unknown - and variant versions are published here for the first time. The edition presents authentic texts for Wagner specialists and researchers and critically based performing materials. Contrary to widely held opinions, even the well-known works of Wagner are not necessarily available in reliable editions. The genesis, history and performances directed by Wagner himself are extensively documented so as to present as complete an image as possible of Wagner's compositional intentions.

The New Robert Schumann Edition (RSA) is intended as a historico-critical edition of the collected works. They will be carefully studied and prepared according to present-day musicological and editorial techniques and presented in their entirety. Drafts, sketches and fragments, in short, everything that has come down to us as being authentically by Schumann and which, in most cases, has been deliberately preserved by him, will be brought together, evaluated as to its importance and documented in some form or other in the edition of the complete works. It is the aim of the edition to reproduce authentic texts which - having corrected scribal, copying and printing errors and eradicated later additions and other textual corruptions - will approach as closely as is possible the intention of the originals. The critical edition will form the basis of accurate performance material for Robert Schumann's work.

This volume brings together Schönberg's complete works for piano solo, and thereby presents a wide span from the free atonal pieces of op. 11 to the aphoristic op. 19, the fascinating tone-row experiments of op. 23 to the dodecaphonically conceived works op. 25, 33a and 33b. Additionally, in the appendix, three pieces from 1894 by the twenty-year-old composer provide an astonishing insight into the late-romantic roots of the modern Schönberg. His compositional development can be easily traced in this edition, which incorporates all kinds of milestones of classical modernism alongside thrilling, trailblazing music. Anyone wanting to engage with Schönberg's piano works should not miss this compendium!

The first edition of Kroll's portfolio of works 'Tagebuch fur Klavier' (ED 8883) was published in 1999. It contains a large variety of short piano pieces the fundamental notes of which are obtained by permutation from a twelve-note series from Schoenberg's Suite for Piano Op. 25. An updated edition was published in 2015.Another 16 compositions created between 2014 and 2019 can now be added to these pieces with this supplement (ED 8883-01). In 1999, the 'Tagebuch fur Klavier' was awarded the Deutscher Musikeditionspreis.

Commissioned by Richard Deering with funds provided by the Arts Council of Great Britain and first performed by him in October 1982 in Amsterdam. The title is the same as the Schoenberg ones of 1911 and like those pieces my title is something of an understatement. They are not musically or technically undemanding as the title may perhaps suggest. In my case these pieces were in a sense sketches for my larger scale Piano Sonata of the following year. Each piece has its own essential character, but all of them are linked in the use of common pitch material. There is more than a hint of parody in the mood of the music.

The piano works by the Swiss composer Erich Schmid (1907-2000), written between 1926 and 1943, are close to the Viennese School of Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern, but bring their own special colour to this spectrum. Even where they are twelve-tonal, Schmid's piano pieces do not exhaust themselves in strict constructivism, but often have a playful, motoric side. With their manageable rangeand complexity, they provide a comparatively easy access to a style that was formative in the first half of the 20th century. Splitter (Volume 2), a collection of folk song arrangements and character pieces in a freely tonal style, is particularly easy to play. Schmid's first collection Kleine Musik (Volume 1) can also be mastered by amateurs.
