Begin your band students' learning journey on the right foot with Now Go Home and Practice!, a book built on the arrangements of James Swearingen who is well known for his musically sound compositions for young instrumentalists. The book is sequenced so that all instrumentalists learn the same first notes, allowing them to start making music together instantly! As the book progresses, pitches are introduced in the order that makes the most sense for each instrument. For the less-experienced teacher, a guide for building a band program is included. Setting this method apart, parental resources are included. You can spend your time developing students' technique instead of drafting parent letters. Student pages are also included throughout this comprehensive, 368-page resource so you know what the students and parents in your program are seeing. The student book contains information about instrument assembly and care, playing position, first tones, and tuning as well as parent tips.

Inspiring Nature These three piano pieces, composed for the ,,Concours, Brin d'Herbe 2019, may be performed separately or as a collection, in which case they should be played in the given order. Though each piece is aimed at a different technical level (I. Elementary, II. Advanced, III. Intermediate), they have a common artistic aim: to connect musical expression with poetic inspiration. In particular, these pieces meditate on the emotional connection between our interior life and the vast and varied landscapes of the natural world all around us. While composing I found myself re-reading Kathleen Raine (one of my favourite poets) and was struck by her statement (in the foreword to her ,,Selected Poems): ,,'Nature-poetry' is not what we write about nature, but rather the language of images in which nature daily speaks to us of the timeless, age-old mystery in which we participate. Nature communicates today what it told the earliest of humankind, and what it will tell future generations when our modern high-rise cities are no more. Meanings, moods, the whole scale of our inner experience, finds in nature the 'correspondences' through which we may know our boundless selves. Nature is the common, universal language, understood by all. What she says about nature resonates with my understanding of music, which also sometimes affords us an opportunity to know 'our boundless selves'. And I am especially interested in the way that sounds - which, as vibrations in the air, are another aspect of nature - can reveal and heighten our sense of connectedness to ourselves and our surroundings. Each movement is inspired by a single stanza from the poem ,,Amo Ergo Sum by Kathleen Raine, and I would encourage anyone playing these pieces to devote time to internalising the words as well as the music, for they may contain the key to an accurate expression. As such, the relevant words are quoted at the start of each score. ,,Inner Landscapes is dedicated to Joe Browning, Lexy Oliver and Omar Shahryar. Frédéric Chopin's 4 Scherzi are high points in the Romantic piano repertoire. Chopin here takes a traditional genre and fills it with radically new content. They are wild, demonic in tone, and there is little about them that is joke-like, despite the original meaning of their title. Referring to the 1st Scherzo, Robert Schumann asked: “how should seriousness be attired, when even a 'joke' is veiled in black?†Now that the Scherzi nos. 1-4 have been published in revised stand-alone editions, G. Henle Publishers is now offering all four in paperback and hardback, in an edition that reflects the current state of Chopin research. Both the footnotes and the extensive Critical Report on the Internet offer detailed information on the familiar topic of “Chopin variants†and on all the textual problems they raise. This is Chopin in top form!

Prokofiev did not compose his Visions fugitives â?? 20 â??fleeting visionsâ? â?? in one go, but in clusters between 1915 and 1917, immediately before the Russian Revolution that compelled him to leave his native country in 1918. We know from his diaries that at least some of them owe their existence to extra-musical impulses. Thus several pieces were inspired by people close to him. Others impart his emotional reaction to the political situation with its menacing brutality. According to his own statement, for example, no. 19 â??was inspired by the events of February 1917 in Petrogradâ?, during the Revolution's first phase. Technically the pieces are not too demanding, and are also often used in teaching. They now appear for the first time in an Urtext edition that considers all the musical sources created during the composer's lifetime. In his preface, Prokofiev specialist Simon Morrison provides biographical context for the genesis of this fantastic piano cycle.

“AL 30 757 ' French Music for Mixed Choir Those who love choral singing often lament not knowing how to go about finding, among the heaps of scores written for multiple singers, the rare gem whose discovery would intensify the enjoyment of singing together. What unknown treasure might bring a programme the touch of originality that makes it stand out? As the fruit of long and hard research on the subject, this anthology of French pieces for choir is one we hope will go down in history. The first section is made up of original works written for choral ensemble: Gabriel Fauré's Op. 35 Madrigal exhales a melancholy sensuality that is shared to some degree by Reynaldo Hahn's Rondels ' and within this Renaissance pastiche lies a real masterpiece, 'Gardez le trait de la fenêtre'. Le Ballet des ombres, written by a young Berlioz, drinks from the whimsical source of Romanticism (Herder). The second section assembles choral transcriptions of melodies ' such as Beau soir by Debussy and Deux Prières by Milhaud ' along with excellent arrangements like 'Choral inappétissant' extracted from Satie's piano in Sports et divertissements. A treasure trove of pure delight.&rdquo.

Chopin's waltzes were – contrary to, say, those by Schubert – no longer conceived for dancing or for the ballroom. These pieces assumed the form and function of idealized concert waltzes, which Chopin enjoyed performing in the elegant and exclusive art-loving salons of Paris. A particularly eloquent example is the “Grande Valse brillante†op. 18 which, with its multiplicity of charming melodic ideas and moods – now gently rocking, now overwhelming, now again triumphantly jubilant – became one of Chopin's most popular waltzes. The medium level of difficulty allows even less proficient pianists to become familiar with the “brilliant†side of Chopin through this waltz.

One of Scriabin's best-known piano pieces is also one of his very first compositions. He wrote it when he was only fifteen years old; when it appeared in print in 1893, the twenty-one-year-old was still so unknown that he did not receive any remuneration from the publisher. The rapturous etude was soon to enjoy unprecedented success. Marked “Andante”, it is not a virtuoso piece – but nevertheless it is a challenge to master the full-handed chords in legato and to clearly work out the upper and middle parts at the same time. In the Henle Urtext edition, Boris Giltburg's fingerings support this task in an exemplary manner. As an etude of medium difficulty, this earworm offers a wonderful introduction to the piano world of Scriabin!
